It's October 12th. This is New York Rangers News Today. AI-powered updates on your team.

I'm Corey with the story. All right, so some big news out of New York today. Dylan Garand, the Rangers' goaltender, is getting ready to have a breakout season.

He made ESPN's list of 40 NHL players poised to shine in the 2026-27 season, a nod to his potential that's finally getting the spotlight. Now, with starting goalie Igor Shesterkin out for the year due to injury, Garand's stepping into the top spot. And before Shesterkin's injury, he was already viewed as a guy to watch this season. This flip in opportunity could give him the stage to really prove himself. Garand's been solid so far, even when the Rangers briefly waved him.

He cleared waivers, went to the minors, and then got called back up. Now, he's the starting goaltender after Dunas Corpusalo also went down with an injury.

So, he's got the chance of a lifetime to make his mark. In his limited play last season, Garand posted a 1.62 goals against average in a 0.946 save percentage. Not bad numbers at all. Just recently, he even recorded the shutout against the Detroit Red Wings in just his 4th NHL game. Major confidence boost there for sure. Garand's ready to give it his all. He's got that fire to help the Rangers and the city, which is exactly the mindset you want from your starting goalie. So, keep an eye on him as the season rolls on, it could be a game changer for the Rangers.
