I'm Wes Goldberg, executive producer and host of RealGM Radio and on today's show, I'll be joined by my RealGM Radio colleagues, Mo Dakhil and Jared Dubin of the Double Dribble podcast and my Good Take cohost and author of Basketball Poetry, Mike Shearer, to discuss the Lakers getting sold for the second time in 18 months, what we like and don't like from the NBA schedule release and then we're gonna do a tiered fantasy draft for seven man rosters. That gets pretty heated, let's jump in.
All right, welcome to the RealGM Radio Summer Roundtable. We're gonna be doing a Madden style fantasy draft to pick fake teams for this season. We've got some interesting wrinkles for that. Right before we started recording, guys, it was reported that the Lakers are being sold again, this time for $12 billion to a group led by Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner. Iger was the former CEO for Disney. Kushner, a venture capital guy. This is surprising, I think, for two reasons. Number one, the Lakers were just sold to Mark Walter 18 months ago for $10 billion. And then number two, Iger and Kushner were apparently in the mix to buy the Las Vegas Expansion Team. And then, according to ESPN, pivoted last second to this Lakers sale. Mo, what, if anything, stands out to you about this deal with the Lakers?

**Mo Dakhil** (2:07)
I mean, flipping the team 18 months after you bought it is, I mean, it feels more like a real estate deal than a actual buying of a team. But I think this is really actually more troubling for Mark Walters.
I don't know how many people are aware that he's under federal investigation for loan fraud. So I think he was like, okay, I need to get liquid pretty quickly. I need to get cash and be ready to fight this.

**Jared Dubin** (2:34)
There's a lot of questions.

**Mo Dakhil** (2:35)
I mean, you know, selling it to Kushner kind of raises some questions in that regard. I don't know. I feel like there's a lot of things up in the air here that are moving. But as long as it doesn't affect my Dodgers.

**Wes Goldberg** (2:52)
Well, reportedly, it will not affect your Dodgers. Mark Walter will remain in control of that. But Jared, it does feel like there's more reporting still to be done on this. We are about, like, I don't know, less than an hour after this news broke.

**Mo Dakhil** (3:04)
Can we just so you guys know that the news broke at like seven in the morning in LA. So like we don't even know what's going on over here in LA.

Well, what's new?

Most of one of my points. So that's always nice. But first of all, second of all, Mo, I can't believe we got outbid for another NBA team.

**Mo Dakhil** (3:24)
I really thought our bid for $50 was going to work. You know, it's a standing offer.

**Jared Dubin** (3:29)
They didn't sell us the Blazers. And now they're not selling us the Lakers. We didn't even know. We couldn't be any worse.
We couldn't be any worse for the Blazers. It's ridiculous that they didn't tell us this team was up for sale.

**Mo Dakhil** (3:40)
We couldn't be any worse for the Blazers. But at least, hey Jared, let's just go for the expansion team now.

**Jared Dubin** (3:45)
Yeah, I will say also the other thing to me is, Bob Iger has a net worth around 700 million, Joshua Kushner supposedly has a net worth around 5 billion. These guys do not have 12.5 billion to buy the Lakers. So where is the real money coming from?
