Dr. Will Cole: Insulin Resistance Is Fueling Your Cellular Aging
The Ultimate Human with Gary Brecka
September 29, 2026
You might think eating clean is enough to stay young, but new research says otherwise. One in five people over 50 already have one organ aging faster than the rest of their body.

People born in the 90s, millennials, were aging more rapidly than people born in 1965 So there's people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s that have senior citizen cells and they don't even know it.
Gary Brecka (0:10)
I think it's high time that people recognize at scale the importance of cellular health because very often we're just not getting down in the microenvironment enough.
Dr. Will Cole (0:19)
We have this accelerated cellular aging and the faster your cells are aging, you have an increased likelihood of a health problem of that specific organ. Living in our modern broken world with environmental toxins, eating clean alone isn't going to cut it.
Gary Brecka (0:34)
If you're bathing your cells in a toxic soup and they've gone unaddressed and then you add the stress bucket to it, now you're at a breaking point.
Dr. Will Cole (0:41)
We know the things what stress and rage and shame and trauma will do to you on a cellular level. You have to deal with the mental, emotional, spiritual just as much, if not more, than you deal with the physical. But the beautiful blessing, silver lining and all of this is that when you know what you're dealing with, you can do something about it.
Gary Brecka (0:58)
For somebody that's compelled to take Cellular Health, seriously, where's the start?
Dr. Will Cole (1:02)
It could all be boiled down to this.
Gary Brecka (1:17)
Hey guys, welcome back to the Ultimate Human Podcast. I'm your host, Human Biologist, Gary Brecka, where we go down the road of everything, anti-aging, biohacking, longevity, and everything in between. And today's guest is actually someone I have a great amount of respect for in the industry, in the space, because he talks about a topic that goes lost, I think, even on a lot of functional medicine practitioners, and that is getting down to the health of your actual cells. And he's here today to not only talk about cellular health, but to talk about his new book that he co-authored with Dr. Josh Axe, another good friend of mine and mentor in the space.
So welcome to the podcast, Dr. Will Cole.
Dr. Will Cole (1:55)
Thanks for having me back, my friend. You made me a coffee today.
Gary Brecka (1:58)
Not just a coffee, a mold-free, certified organic.
Dr. Will Cole (2:03)
It's the best coffee I've had. What did you put in it? I mean, people are going to want to know what Gary Brecka made.
Gary Brecka (2:08)
I'll tell you what goes into this coffee.
What goes into this coffee is certified mold-free organic coffee and then raw goat milk. So I foamed the raw goat milk and then about a tablespoon of raw maple syrup. Got it.
Dr. Will Cole (2:23)
Your side hustle could be barista. I mean, you could get easily.
Gary Brecka (2:27)
You know, if it ever doesn't work out in the biohacking space, I could go into the barista. You know, I want to get into cellular health and I want to actually, because I think that you and I are aligned on so many different areas. You know, 12 years ago, when I started talking about mold, the mycotoxins, viruses, parasites, heavy metals, as a potential causes for immune disruption, chronic inflammation, immune activation, you know, I was laughed out of a lot of rooms. And it's becoming more accepted and more mainstream. You know, I love the adage that, the saying that, you know, when a fish gets sick, the first thing we do is clean the tank.
Dr. Will Cole (3:03)
Yeah.
Gary Brecka (3:04)
Right. Because it's so obvious, right? Fishes swimming around dirty water, murky water. And usually what we do is we clean up the terrain and the environment, and the fish gets healthy again.
And by environment, I don't necessarily mean our external environment. I mean this environment, the internal environment.
Dr. Will Cole (3:20)
The bioterrain.
Gary Brecka (3:20)
Yeah, the bioterrain. You've been a pioneer in talking about this. You and I think Dr. Perlmutter were very early on the scene. I had Dr. Perlmutter here this week. He was a mentor of mine.
In fact, in 2014, I read his book, Brain Brain.
Dr. Will Cole (3:35)
Brilliant, man.
Gary Brecka (3:36)
And then he wrote another one, Gut Brain Connection.
Dr. Will Cole (3:38)
Yeah.
Gary Brecka (3:38)
Or one of those came first.
Dr. Will Cole (3:40)
Yeah.
Gary Brecka (3:40)
It was Gut Brain Connection.
Dr. Will Cole (3:42)
Brain, yeah, he has Brain Maker, like a few different ones. And his new one, Brain Defenders, like brain.
Gary Brecka (3:47)
Yeah, Brain Defenders. And he talks about Alzheimer's, dementia, and your inflammatory conditions.
