Dorofeyev’s Role in Rangers’ Push | New York Rangers News

On September 17th, The New York Rangers are in a bit of a time crunch as their training camp just kicked off this past Wednesday. They've got a super short preseason, only four games spread across five days from September 21st to the 25th. That means coach Mike Sullivan and his crew have to figure out a whole lot real fast before their season opener against the Boston Bruins on September 29th. A big question mark is where Pavel Dorofeyev, a 25-year-old winger they picked up in a trade back in June, is going to fit into the lineup. Sullivan mentioned they'll be trying him out on both the left and right sides over the next couple of weeks, looking for the best combination for him and the team. Dorofeyev has played both wings before, and apparently he's comfortable on either side, which gives the Rangers more flexibility. This whole situation has fans buzzing, especially considering Dorofeyev's scoring ability. He was second on his old team in playoff goals last spring, so he knows how to find the back of the net. The challenge now is for the Rangers to put him in a position to do that consistently, especially since their team scoring wasn't exactly top tier last season. The team is also looking at who will be centering Dorofeyev with Vincent Trocheck now gone. They've got a few options there, and then there's the whole puzzle of who plays on his opposite wing. Players like Alexis Lafreniere and Gabe Perreault have shown flashes of brilliance, and with new additions like Oliver Bjorkstrand and Eeli Tolvanen.

The competition for spots is fierce. Ultimately, the Rangers made a significant investment in Dorofeyev, signing him to a long-term deal worth $11 million annually through. 2033

With the team aiming to be contenders this season, finding the right line mates and role for their new scoring thread is going to be a top priority for Coach Sullivan and the front office.
