The Young Turks

September 9, 2026

Iran is warning that a new U.S. attack could trigger strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure and American forces, raising the stakes for the global oil market. Meanwhile, Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on $27.6 billion in U.S. goods take effect as the trade dispute deepens.

All right, guys, we're going to do something different today. We're going to do a story, and then we'll do a little bit of Operation Joy. Sorry about the irregularity there. Real quick from Super Chat, Little Max Corner says, I was on Twitter as all this was happening.

Maybe a way more fun place. But anyway, the coordinated attacks was so blatantly obvious, slightly different, but much like with Hassan, it was coordinated so well. The effort was obvious even to the blind.

Ana Kasparian (0:29)

Yes, thank you, thank you, thank you. Look, I just want the left to be smarter. And don't fall for these games. Don't fall for these tricks. Don't give them an inch. Don't give them an inch.

Look, real racism absolutely should be called out. That wasn't racism, sorry.

Cenk Uygur (0:49)

Yep, so As Most Profit in our member section on tyt.com says haha, Cenk, you think they can't call a black lady racist? They call Bernie an anti-Semite.

So As Most Profit, I saw that comment and you helped me make that point earlier in the show, so thank you. That's how we do the show together and I just wanted to give you the credit for it. You put that in my head earlier. So you're awesome, we appreciate it. All right, let's do the next story.

Macklemore (1:14)

I've been trying to figure out a way to say this all day. One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart. Free Palestine.

I said free Palestine.

Cenk Uygur (1:50)

I love it. That's Macklemore.

And he called out for free Palestine. That was the most benign thing you could imagine. He's just saying the Palestinians should be free.

Called an anti-Semite all over media. And now, they're demanding that he be taken off the tour. Of course. For treating Palestinians as equal to the Israelis. Doesn't he know they're inferior? And they should be enslaved by the Israelis? Not enslaving the Palestinians is anti-Semitism. So that is literally what they're saying, because radical Zionists are lunatics. Ana's got the whole story.

Ana Kasparian (2:28)

I was happy to see the reaction from the crowd, which was positive toward his statement. Why don't we hear more of what he had to say?

Macklemore (2:36)

I want those words to be loud and clear, so the people from Gaza all the way to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten them. To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters, criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace, love, for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect and equality. So I say free Palestine, I say free Lebanon, I say free Cuba, I say free Congo, free Sudan, free all people in America living in fear over this terrorist organization ICE.

None of us will be free until we are all free.

Ana Kasparian (3:37)

That last statement really resonated with me because to my fellow Americans, given the fact that our lawmakers pick our pockets to fight a foreign country's war.

Do you feel free? You don't really have much of a say in it, do you? Anyway, look, this was during the Ed Sheeran concert. Macklemore is opening for two of his concerts. And in his openings, he fights for Palestine, which I personally really love. And he also has songs like Hinn's Hall that references the Columbia University students who protested against Israel's actions. The song has lyrics like, we see the lies in them, claiming it's anti-Semitic to be anti-Zionist. I've seen Jewish brothers and sisters out there and riding in solidarity and screaming free Palestine with them.

Here's just one more, destroying every college in Gaza and every mosque, pushing everyone into Rafa and dropping bombs. The blood is on your hands, Biden. We can see it all and F no, I'm not voting for you in the fall. So obviously he wrote this song prior to the 2024 elections. Now, he's calling for the recognition of the humanity of the Palestinian people. He wants them to be free. He wants them to live in a safe state where they can thrive. And naturally, that is going to lead to quite a bit of Zionist backlash. Here's a little taste.

SPEAKER_4 (5:06)

Not a word from Ed Sheeran, gutless. So this is your warm up act. They're not even there for you. They're there for Ed Sheeran and in the metal lands. And this guy feels bold enough to say something as divisive as that, by the way, inaccurate. It's not genocide, but I don't want to slow the rapper down.
