Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Beauty Brains Hello and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 275 I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.
Valerie George (0:30)
Hi, Perry.
Perry Romanowski (0:32)
Your voice sounds good, you must have had some teeth work done.
Valerie George (0:36)
We'll talk about that.
Perry Romanowski (0:37)
We will, but first, on today's show, we're going to cover is there something that makes Hair Story products special? Whether you can tell how vitamin C is still effective in your product, whether emulsifying wax and F is safe for use in hair conditioners, can active ingredients in a body wash really benefit your skin, and whether ingredients in nail polish are animal derived?
But first, Valerie, last time you had some sort of mouth implant, and that was making your speech a little funny, you were going to get some of your teeth done or something, weren't you?
Valerie George (1:12)
I had a coronation today. I am Queen V.
Perry Romanowski (1:16)
So coronation, like that's when you get like a crown on your head or something?
Valerie George (1:21)
Yeah, except they were on my teeth. So I don't grind my teeth per se, like I don't clench my jaw and move my teeth around. I just clench my jaws super, super hard. I've never had a cavity in my adult life, and I went to the jaw doctor because I've been having some issues, obviously from the clenching. And once he finally got my mouth open, he said, oh dear, you've turned your teeth into daggers.
Just over the years, the clenching kind of sharpened and created opposing daggers on my top and bottom teeth. So I had to get crowns on two of my four teeth so far.
Perry Romanowski (2:05)
Wow.
You know, your sharp teeth story reminds me of a little fact I learned about dinosaurs. You can tell if a dinosaur is a meat eater because their teeth are sharp, right?
Valerie George (2:18)
Yeah.
Perry Romanowski (2:19)
The plant eaters, they have like flat teeth.
Valerie George (2:21)
Well, look, I have really flat teeth everywhere else in my mouth, except the daggers I made in the back. And I don't really eat meat, so it's kind of interesting. But yeah.
Perry Romanowski (2:31)
Well, now that I think about it, maybe dinosaurs, they didn't eat meat. They just had a grinding teeth thing going on.
Valerie George (2:39)
Maybe they just clenched their jaws really hard at night. It was stressful being a dinosaur.
Perry Romanowski (2:44)
You know, it was.
Oh, I do have a quick update of Porch Kitty. Guess what happened today with Porch Kitty?
Valerie George (2:51)
Oh my gosh. She's pregnant again.
Perry Romanowski (2:54)
No. Although I have to say the Porch Kitty kitties seem to have left the nest because I don't see them around anymore.
Valerie George (3:01)
Oh, well, they're either in their new homes or not alive.
Perry Romanowski (3:05)
They're down another alley or something. Well, I did see Tuxedo yesterday, but today Porch Kitty came into my house.
Valerie George (3:13)
Oh, it's an evolution, everybody.
Perry Romanowski (3:15)
I opened the door and Porch Kitty came in. I couldn't believe it.
Valerie George (3:18)
Oh, what did he want? Or she, what did she want?
Perry Romanowski (3:23)
She just wanted to sniff around, and then I put the plate of food down there. She ate it, and then she left. So there you go.
Valerie George (3:30)
She was like, this guy's pretty cool.
Perry Romanowski (3:32)
We'll see. She still doesn't let me get that close to her.
All right, are we ready to head into some beauty science news?
Valerie George (3:40)
Do do.
Perry Romanowski (3:47)
Valerie, did you see this story about Charlotte Tilbury offering a refillable package?
Valerie George (3:55)
I did not see this specific story, but generally, I've actually pretty much stopped clicking on refillable packaging stories because they are just becoming so prevalent.
Perry Romanowski (4:09)
Well, in this particular story, you know, it was just out of happy. And of course, it's breaking news, as everything is. But according to them, their best-selling Magic Cream trilogy is now in refillable packaging.
You know, they have their Magic Eye Rescue Cream and Night Cream, and apparently, you can go back and get a little capsule to put back in your jar, and it's refillable. But, you know, these, I don't know, is this refillable stuff really gonna have much impact on the environment, at least the way they're making it seem? Or is this theater of sustainability?
