Amen, if you will, open your Bibles to the Book of Exodus. We're going to continue in our series this morning, Deepening Our Desire for the Lord. How many of you want a deeper desire for God? If you want a deeper desire for God, you gotta lessen the desire for everything else. And this is what it means when Jesus said, in order to be my disciple, to follow me, you must hate your mother, hate your father, hate your brother. What does it mean? It's a bad translation into the word hate, but it means to love less. What's he saying? You've got to have a desire for me greater than anything else. This relationship has to be preeminent in your life. It's gotta be that which consumed you. You gotta be ate up with Jesus. Y'all know what it means? That's an idiom. Cultural ate up, be ate up. You know, there's some people ate up with stupidity. There's other people ate up with, you know, other things, but you gotta become ate up with Jesus. What does that mean? What I'm saying is you've got to assimilate him in all of your life. The Hebrew word for name is Shem. It means not just, well, Jesus, the name, or Yeshua, or Jesus, amen, or whatever, what other language the name may be articulated in. It speaks to his character, his nature, his desire, his heart, amen, his way of living, his character, his values, his beliefs, everything. That means like the prophets of old, you have been called to relinquish your right to your opinion. Listen, the voice of God can speak and silence every voice, demonic voices, come on, in your life, everything. But it's hard for God to silence the voice of your own opinion. And anytime we start letting our opinion usurp the authority and the opinions of God, and we make room for our opinion, and yet say we're following Jesus, we're not. We're not.
Listen, God does not care what your opinion is about His Word and how you would choose to interpret it to line up with your opinion of what you've chose to agree to do in your life. That why you're not following Jesus. You're not following the name, Shem. That's why I said there is no other name by which men may be rescued, saved, redeemed, made new. You gotta follow the name, and to follow the name, you gotta live the life. That's what He means. I am the way.
Come on. The truth, the emet, the life, the chayah, I. You gotta follow my name.
But unfortunately in Christianity, we just claim the name. We don't follow the name. We just claim the name. It ain't enough to claim the name. You gotta follow the name. That's why Paul said, It's no longer I who lives, but it's Christ who lives within me. I must decrease and he must increase. Follow the name. And let me just say this. There is, there is desire. Every relationship is desire driven. Come on. If there's no desire to develop the relationship, if other things in life or, I mean in our souls or anything has come and put out the fire of desire, let's say the fire of desire. Anytime something has put out the fire of desire, then relationship wanes. Relationship is broken. Relationship, it's an open door for the enemy to come in and destroy relationship where there's no fire of desire. Because it doesn't matter what it is. Church, relationship with Christ, relationships at work, marriage, your children, doesn't matter. There is desire where they're, listen, there is no desire where there is no connection.
Where there's no relation, that's why it's said, it has been said that if somebody visits the church three times, and within the third visit, they have not made some sense of relational connection, they're probably not coming back. I don't care how many prophetic words they got, but if they didn't make relational connection, connection, where there's no desire, there's not going to be connection, right? And where there's no connection, there's no desire. In other words, where there was connection, and now there's disconnection, desire is gone. There's no desire to sustain and maintain the connection. So when we get disconnected, what do we lose? This is the desire for the relationships.
Same thing applies with God. If we're not staying connected, we're not staying connected in prayer, we're not staying connected in His Word, if we're not staying connected in His fellowship, if we're not staying connected in serving, if we're not staying connected, we're disconnecting. You're either connecting or disconnecting. There's no in between, amen? You're either living or dying. Something these are growing or... It's not growing, it's dying.
