We go on over here to Philly, man, see what they got going on with Jalen Hurts. Oh my goodness.
Joe Haden (0:06)
Oh my goodness.
James Harrison (0:08)
Hold on, bro.
Joe Haden (0:09)
Yes, Deebo.
James Harrison (0:10)
Let me get my tongue twisted together.
Joe Haden (0:12)
I got time. I got time.
James Harrison (0:13)
Let me get my tongue twister together here. Okay, so Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season because of blood clot now that is in his lungs. So what we have is, I guess he was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emblem.
SPEAKER_3 (0:34)
Woo, I killed that.
Joe Haden (0:36)
Deebo?
SPEAKER_3 (0:37)
Now recovering.
James Harrison (0:38)
No, sorry. He is now receiving anticoagulant treatment and is expected to miss the rest of the season. So October 4th, he suffered a cleat injury to his calf against the Rams. On the 10th, an ultrasound in London identified a superficial blood clot. On the 11th, the doctors cleared him to play against Jacksonville.
On the 14th, the follow-up imaging reported showed some movement of the clot. 19th, the Eagles announced the deep vein thrombosis blood clots in the lungs. Okay.
Why was this man even allowed to play a game with any kind of blood clot? So what's going on here though? Because as you and I both know, this isn't the first time someone has caught in clots and let them play in the game. There's been multiple occasions that haven't been reported. Like even if you look at this now, I think right now if you look, it's eight. I think they said reported so far from... Here's something. Here's a crazy thing. So I had to go look up something, Joe.
Joe Haden (1:55)
Please.
James Harrison (1:56)
So from like 2000 to 2020, there were eight, sorry, 11, 11 actual ones that were reported, like reported cases. From 22 to 26, that's only four years, it's been eight reported cases. One person called it twice, it's only seven people, but one person had blood clots twice, Joe.
And on top of that, like he's done for the rest of the season. So a full recovery is the best thing that could happen, which means he will play next year. You could have an issue where it may be extended, like something, you know, didn't go exactly as it would be. And when it come down to it, like this is something that's actually, I guess possibly career-threatening if it actually damages his lungs or he has to stay on those anti-coagulants for a longer period of time or extended period of time because I'm thinning the blood. I can't have you out here in the contact sport, bumping and banging. And you do something and now you bleed out on me.
Like what's going on? Why? Why did they let this man play?
Joe Haden (3:13)
So this is first and foremost, I hopes and heart and prayers out for Jalen Hurts. Hopes and prayers out for Jalen Hurts, 1,000 percent.
It's a blood clot. And I seen with his mom, his mom spoke and she said something this morning. She was like, and it really just put it all in perspective for me, for Deebo, for you, for just life in general. You know what I'm saying? Mom, just a reminder, y'all, be grateful. Be grateful for where you are and what you have, because life in this world can change in the blink of an eye.
So when I think about football and when we think about injuries and when we think about blood clots, you got to be able to protect the players from themselves. And when I say that, everybody, you always want to play, you always want to get out there. And when you talk about independent doctors, I always think about them as your parents, as your mom, as your dad. So the goal for teams are to make sure you can play. I say if it's an ankle, if it's an elbow, if it's something like that, that's something where you can know the worst case scenario is it's broke, you can get surgery and it can get fixed. If it's an ankle, it's a sprain, there's worst case scenarios so you always can be able to monitor. If you get working out with the blood clots, that is what is the worst case, it could be nothing, but what's the worst case scenario? It could be life-threatening. So when you go to that, it's like you need to have the independent people that are like, what is the best and worst case scenario for this person? We need to be able to protect them from themselves. Jalen Hurts, if you, like you always want to play. What is the posi-
