Hey, everyone, before we get started today, I want to let you know, The Bible in a Year has brought the Word of God to so many people. As you know, you're part of this community, changing lives in so many incredible ways. We're humbled to play this role in God's plan and consider it our ongoing mission to keep bringing the Word of God to as many people as possible. So what I'm saying is, the end of this year is not going to be the end of Bible in a year. So far, Ascension has been able to add the podcast to YouTube. You might have found it that way. Maybe you're watching right now on YouTube. And also, we're working on translating it into different languages so you could have the Bible in a year in other languages than English. But of course, this takes a significant investment to bring projects like these free of cost to our listening communities. And we want to keep them free of cost to all those people who will participate because we want to get the Word of God out there. And because of that, we have to rely on generous contributions from listeners like you to help defray these costs and to enable us to continually provide new audiences with this life-changing content. So, if you would like to help support The Bible in a Year mission, you can go to ascensionpress.com/support.
That's ascensionpress.com/support.
Hi, my name is Fr. Mike Schmitz and you're listening to The Bible in a Year Podcast, where we encounter God's voice and live life through the lens of scripture. The Bible in a Year Podcast is brought to you by Ascension. Using The Great Adventure Bible Timeline, we'll read all the way from Genesis to Revelation, discovering how the story of salvation unfolds and how we fit into that story today. It is day 240 Congratulations for making it this far. We're reading today Jeremiah 23, as well as Daniel chapters 4 and 5 We're also reading Proverbs chapter 16, new chapter for Proverbs, verses 1 through 4 As always, the Bible translation that I'm reading from is the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition. I'm using The Great Adventure Bible from Ascension. If you want to download your own Bible in a Year reading plan, you can visit ascensionpress.com/bible in a Year. You can also subscribe to this podcast by clicking on Subscribe and receiving daily episodes and receiving daily updates. As it is today, day 240, that means you have 125 more days left. But gosh, I think this is two-thirds of the way through and just imagine the gift. I just even realize just for right now, not only the gift of being able to journey as part of this community through the Bible in a year but also the gift of being able to every day, whenever you've pressed play, to be able to just hear God's word in your ear and in our hearts. What a gift. As I said, it's day 240 We're reading Jeremiah chapter 23, Daniel chapter 4 and 5, in Proverbs chapter 16, verses 1 through 4
The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah chapter 23, a remnant to be restored after exile. Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture, says the Lord. Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who care for my people, you have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for your evil doings, says the Lord. Then I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. I will set shepherds over them who will care for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be missing, says the Lord.
The Righteous Branch Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a Righteous Branch, and he shall reign as King and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called. The Lord is our Righteousness. Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when men shall no longer say, As the Lord lives who brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt, But as the Lord lives who brought up and led the descendants of the house of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them, then they shall dwell in their own land.
