Here's Daniel Newman, CEO of Futurum, and there's a lot happening in the latest in tech. I mean, just behind you, you've got Trump on the screen here, speaking live from DC. He's got tech power behind him. The optics are fascinating, but at the same time, we've had this really interesting prospectus being leaked now about Anthropic, which has obviously shown us about the financials, but also some of the safety concerns. On the other side of the country, you've got Sam Altman who's been saying, be patient because we've got to get this safety stuff right. I mean, so much going on.

I defer to you because I'm wondering, what is the most important thing that you're watching right now?

Daniel Newman (0:40)

Yeah. I mean, just sitting here while I was waiting to come on. I'm watching the TVs and listening. They're signing executive orders to change AI to super intelligence.

One of the things I've been watching, Sam, really closely has been just the spokes representation we need. Spokespeople we need for AI right now needs to change. The super intelligence thing or artificial intelligence thing, we've created a bad rap. You mentioned Dario and you mentioned Sam Altman. These people putting prospectuses out there that say the potential risk factors of our technology could basically summed up lead to human level extinction. Right. Does not create a high level of comfort in communities with consumers, with users.

Then you have on the other side, you have, I call me adults in the room, you have the Jensens and the Mark Zuckerbergs coming out and saying, well, we do do safety. We are already putting it into our motion. We're not releasing products that aren't safe. I mean, having Zuck come out and be one of the adults in the room, and what a 180 from his past is putting people's privacy and data out there. But right now, we are in this really interesting juxtaposition where the tech is moving extremely fast. The economic security of the US, the West, of the world is dependent upon leading in AI. We have leaders of some of the most important companies coming out saying, this stuff's really dangerous. Then on the other side, you have leaders like Jensen coming out and saying, we can manage this.

SPEAKER_1 (2:06)

Yeah.

Daniel Newman (2:06)

Here's the one thing I'll also make is, it's insane that we suggested there was a 10 percent chance that AI creates an extinction level event. However, the idea that it has a percent chance, I think is equally as insane. I think it's a not zero type of moment, because we need to put safety and I hope up there on that screen at the White House right now that these leaders are putting the work in to figure out how do we make AI safe and how do we make the society comfortable, data centers and the technology and utilization, because this is our economic security.

SPEAKER_1 (2:38)

Yeah. The optics of this meeting are just fascinating, what we're seeing on this TV screen right now. I mean, particularly as far as the role that President Trump wants to play in all of this as well, relabeling artificial intelligence.

I mean, you know what kind of China for many years, Xi Jinping held one of these meetings a few years ago, we sort of had to guess who was in the room based on the back of their heads, which was very, very difficult. But getting back to what the investor community is having to arm wrestle with, it's these two sides. You've got your president, Jensen Huang, your David Sachs of the world, who was sort of saying the onus and Zuckerberg in there as well should be on the company. And you've got the Altmans and the Amadeus and the Musks of the world saying, hey, look, we should probably slow things down a bit. I mean, what do investors do? What do you do? Because, I mean, I was listening to one trader today who said, all right, Anthropic is talking about $518 billion worth of obligations over the next few years. Great news, but own the food chain rather than maybe the stock itself once it goes public.

Daniel Newman (3:41)

Yeah, I mean, the most profound statements I've heard is basically, we are the frontier. We control the pace and it's a decision that needs to be made by the labs, by the infrastructure providers to say, we're going to build safety around this. It's a weird phenomenon right now, but look, Dario has been using fear mongering. I don't know another tactic in spades over the last couple of years, to capture additional valuation. I mean, he came out and said, it's the end of enterprise software. It's the end of security.
