One of the best, most interesting writers in the country, Dan Zaksheske, he writes for Outkick, joins us.
Danny Z, my man, we have talked an awful lot, whether it be on this show or our segments, we do with Dan Dachich on Friday on Outkick about the drama of the WNBA. And we had more drama last night as one of the faces of the league. Somebody that's on a Wheaties box, Asia Wilson, claims that a fever fan was getting out of line. But after a review, the fan was allowed to come back. Nothing happened. Take me through your thoughts on what you saw last night.
Dan Zaksheske (1:01)
Thanks for having me, guys. Yeah, the WNBA is awesome, I'm going to say it. I mean, the basketball is not, but the drama of it, it's like a reality TV, it's like a reality competition show. There's a little bit of physical activity, but it's mostly the drama that we're all tuning in for, right? And it just goes to show that, man, these women, they talk about needing to be treated as equals, and equal pay, but they do not take kindly to equal criticism. I mean, if a male athlete lost his mind like that, over a fan pointing at him and saying the foul is on you, I mean, can you imagine the reaction of if an NBA player got a technical foul in a playoff game, over that, what people would be saying about him, how soft he is? And yes, I'm watching the Anavan Prime Broadcast, and three of the game commentators immediately defended Wilson. Immediately. They had no idea what happened. They're like, oh, he must have said something. Well, what do you mean he must have said something? How the hell do you know? Then they go to the postgame show, four more women, oh, Asia Wilson did nothing wrong. Absolutely ridiculous that she was given a tech. It's like everyone immediately knew, all seven prime broadcasters immediately knew that this guy did something wrong. And by the way, during the postgame show, they had access to the fever statement that said, no, he didn't do anything wrong. And they just ignored it and continued plotting along with, you know, fever fans are awful and they're racist. And he probably said something racist because, you know, how could he not? Cause he's a white guy in WNBA game. I mean, all they do is go there to shout racist remarks at these women, like, guys, I don't know what else to say.
Jason Hammer (2:43)
Dan, I was at the game last night and I was sitting in the nosebleeds with my daughter and my wife and my dad. We were just having fun. And everybody in that place had the same reaction the fan did on the floor. I'm just saying, I'm just letting you know, I'm giving you context that he wasn't the only guy in the stadium. He wasn't the only guy at the field house pointing and saying, Oh, that's a BS move right there. Everybody had that reaction.
Dan Zaksheske (3:15)
Well, the context I need here is, why are you sitting in the noses? Your station is about to hook you up with some sweet fever tickets. What is going on over there?
Jason Hammer (3:23)
I know. It was a last minute thing and it was it was my daughter's thing. So but but I'm just saying, again, everybody had that reaction.
Dan Zaksheske (3:34)
Well, I mean, it was obvious, right? Aja Wilson plowed through Sophie Cunningham and, you know, it does look a force like that there, you know, they're kind of targeting these girls. I mean, there was another spot where Aja went after Sophie Cunningham. And let's be entirely honest about what happened in this moment. Aja Wilson is pissed. She's losing. She's got 14 points coming off like a 37.2 rebound game. She's got 14 points. She's losing and Peyton Clark is lighting it up. She's pissed because and honestly, I don't blame her for that, right? Like that's what we want. We want competitors to compete. We want these women to act like the men and be pissed. She don't freak out on a fan who's pointing at you. And honestly, I would have respected her so much more if she went in the post game and was like, look, I was pissed. All right. I was frustrated. They were doing a good job on defense. That guy pointed at me. It pissed me off. I got to be better. No, no, no, no, no. Of course, she immediately lays on more of the victims. You don't point at me. You don't pick. It's like, oh, God, get over yourself.
