Forget Me Not

September 11, 2026

What kind of fruit have our words and actions been producing lately? Is there something within us that we need to bring to Jesus so that better fruit can grow?

Each tree is known by its own fruit. For people don't gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. The good man, out of the good treasurer of his heart, brings out that which Let's...

And the evil man, out of the evil treasure of his heart, brings out that which is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.

Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and don't do the things which I say?

Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them. I will show you who he is like. He is like a man building a house who dug and went deep. And lay the foundation on the rock. When the flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it. Because it was founded on the rock.

But he who hears and doesn't do... It's like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream broke, and immediately it failed. And the ruin of that house was great.

The Gospel of the Lord. Jesus said to his disciples, A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thorn bushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles. Jesus uses a simple image that anyone can understand. We know a tree by the fruit it produces. In the same way, our actions, words, choices, and the way we treat others, reveal something about what is taking root in our hearts. We can say that we trust God, but the fruit of that trust should eventually show in how we live. We can say that we love others, but that love becomes visible in patience, forgiveness, generosity, and the way we speak to people when there is nothing to gain from them.

This does not mean we will always produce good fruit. We still lose our temper, make selfish choices, speak carelessly and fail to love as Christ asks us to.

Those moments can show us where something within us still needs God's help.

Jesus is asking us to look beyond appearances. A tree cannot hide its fruit forever, and neither can we. What we allow to grow within us will eventually find its way into our words and actions. So instead of focusing only on changing our behaviour, we can ask God to work deeper. When our hearts are rooted in Christ, good fruit begins to grow from that relationship. It becomes visible in the ordinary choices we make each day.

What kind of fruit have our words and actions been producing lately? Is there something within us that we need to bring to Jesus so that better fruit can grow?

Lord Jesus, look into our hearts and help us see what is growing there. Remove what keeps us from loving you and others well. Help us remain close to you so that our lives may bear good fruit through our words, choices, and actions. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
