Forget Me Not

June 4, 2026

Have we reduced Jesus to someone who only fits our expectations, or are we allowing Him to truly lead our lives?
**SPEAKER_2** (0:45)
June 5th, 2026, Memorial of St. Boniface, Bishop and Martyr. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:01)
Jesus responded as he taught in the temple, How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? For David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet. Therefore David himself calls him Lord, So how can he be his son?
The common people heard him gladly, The Gospel of the Lord.

**SPEAKER_2** (1:34)
As Jesus was teaching in the temple area, he said, How do the scribes claim that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, inspired by the Holy Spirit said, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet. David himself, calls him Lord. So how is he his son? The great crowd heard this with delight.
The scribes expected the Messiah to fit neatly into their understanding. They knew the prophecies and traditions well. Yet Jesus showed them that the Christ was far greater than the title or family line. David himself, called him Lord. Faith is not only about knowing facts about God. It is also about allowing him to surprise us, challenge us, and lead us beyond our limited expectations.
There are moments when we try to place Jesus inside the boundaries of our plans, opinions, or comfort. We pray for help, but still want control. We listen, but only for answers we already agree with. Yet Jesus is not simply someone we analyze from a distance. He is Lord. The crowd listened with delight because his words carried truth and authority that reached the heart. Even today, many people are searching for something real in a world filled with noise and uncertainty. Jesus still speaks with that same wisdom to those willing to listen.
Following him means remaining open to being taught again and again.
Have we reduced Jesus to someone who only fits our expectations, or are we allowing him to truly lead our lives? Lord Jesus, teach us to know you more deeply and to trust your wisdom even when we do not fully understand. Help us to listen with open hearts and follow you with sincerity each day. Amen.

**SPEAKER_4** (5:03)
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

**SPEAKER_1** (5:39)
