Thank you. See you in the 9th week in Ordinary Time. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.

One of the scribes came and heard them questioning together, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, which commandment is the greatest of all?
Jesus answered, the greatest is, here Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
This is the first commandment. The second is like this. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. This scribe said to him, Truly teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he, and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, You are not far from God's kingdom. No one dared ask him any question after that.

The Gospel of the Lord One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, Which is the first of all the Commandments? The scribe asked an honest question. Out of all the Commandments, which one matters most? Jesus answered by speaking about love. Love for God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Then love for our neighbour as ourselves. Sometimes, we make faith complicated. We focus on doing everything correctly, saying the right words or keeping up appearances. Yet, Jesus brings the focus back to something deeper, a relationship built on love. Loving God is not only about prayer, church or reading scripture. It also shows in the way we treat people when nobody notices. It appears in patience during difficult moments, forgiveness when we feel hurt, and kindness when we are tired.
The question from the scribe is still relevant today. What comes first in our lives? Success, recognition, control or love?
Jesus reminds us that faith without love becomes empty. Rules may guide us, but love is what gives them meaning.
What has been taking up most of your heart and attention recently? Does it draw you closer to God and others or further away?
Lord, teach us to love You with sincerity and not just with words. Help us to love others with patience, understanding and compassion. When life becomes distracting, bring our hearts back to what truly matters.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day, He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there, He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
**SPEAKER_1** (5:55)
