Forget Me Not

What storm am I facing today, and have I been focusing more on the waves than on the presence of Jesus beside me?

Thank you.

Even the wind and the sea obey him.

The Gospel of the Lord.
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Suddenly, a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swarmed by waves. But he was asleep. They came and woke him saying, Lord, save us, we are perishing. He said to them, Why are you terrified? Oh, you of little faith. Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. The disciples were exactly where they were supposed to be. They were following Jesus. Yet, they still found themselves caught in a violent storm.
That is an important reminder for us. Difficult seasons are not always a sign that we have taken a wrong turn. We can be walking faithfully with Christ and still encounter uncertainty, disappointment, loss of fear. What frightened the disciples most was not just the wind or the waves. It was the feeling that they were losing control. Meanwhile, Jesus was sleeping. From their perspective, it seemed as though he was unaware of the danger. There are moments when we feel the same way. We pray but nothing appears to change. We wait but answers do not come as quickly as we hope. We wonder if God sees what we are going through. Yet Jesus was in the boat the entire time. The storm never placed the disciples outside his reach. When the moment came, he spoke, and the winds and sea obeyed him.
The one who seemed silent was never absent. Faith does not mean pretending we are not afraid. Faith means turning to Jesus with our fears and trusting that his presence is greater than whatever threatens us.
What storm am I facing today? And have I been focusing more on the waves than on the presence of Jesus beside me?
Lord, when fear begins to overwhelm me, help me remember that you are with me. Strengthen my trust when circumstances seem uncertain, and remind me that nothing is beyond your power. Teach me to turn to you first, and to place my confidence in your care. Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

**SPEAKER_1** (5:28)
Amen.

**SPEAKER_2** (5:29)
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

**SPEAKER_1** (6:01)
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

**SPEAKER_2** (6:11)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
