He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.
And he who loves son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me.
He who doesn't take his cross and follow after me isn't worthy of me.
He who seeks his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly, I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.

The Gospel of the Lord Jesus said to his apostles, Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
These words of Jesus can sound difficult at first. He is not asking us to love our family less. He is asking us to love him first. When Christ is at the center of our lives, every other relationship finds its proper place. We become better sons and daughters, better parents, better friends, and better spouses because our hearts are rooted in God's love rather than in fear, control, or personal expectations. Jesus also speaks about taking up our cross. Every disciple carries one. Sometimes, it is a difficult decision. Sometimes, it is forgiveness when we would rather hold on to hurt. Sometimes, it is remaining faithful when following Christ costs us comfort, approval, or convenience.
The cross is rarely something we would choose for ourselves. Yet, it is often through these challenges that our faith becomes deeper, and our trust in God grows stronger.
Following Jesus is not simply about believing in Him. It is about placing Him above everything else, and choosing His way each day, even when the path is demanding.
Is there an area of my life where I'm holding on more tightly to my own desires, fears, or relationships than to Christ? What cross might Jesus be asking me to carry today? Lord Jesus, help me to place You above everything else in my life. Teach me to love my family and others with a heart shaped by Your love. Give me courage to carry the cross You have entrusted to me, and to follow You faithfully each day. May my trust remain in You even when the road is difficult. Amen.

The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
