Forget Me Not

June 20, 2026

Is there an area of my life where fear is stopping me from doing what I know God is asking of me?
**SPEAKER_2** (0:46)
A reading from the Holy Gospel, according to Matthew.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:51)
Therefore, don't be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light, and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops. Don't be afraid of those who killed the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Aren't two sparrows sold for an Assyrian coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your father's will.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore, don't be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. Everyone, therefore, who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my father who is in heaven. But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my father who is in heaven.

**SPEAKER_2** (1:55)
The Gospel of the Lord What I say to you in the darkness speak in the light. What you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Jesus reminds his disciples that the truth they receive from him is not meant to remain hidden. What begins as a personal encounter with God is meant to shape how we live, speak and witness to others. Many of us find it easier to stay silent. We may worry about criticism, rejection or being misunderstood. Sometimes, we know what is right, but hesitate because standing for our faith can be uncomfortable. Jesus understood this fear, which is why he told his disciples not to be afraid.
The Lord was not asking them to be fearless because life would be easy. He was inviting them to place their trust in something greater than human approval. People can affect our circumstances, but they cannot take away the soul that belongs to God. There are moments when living as a Christian requires quiet acts of courage. It may be choosing honesty when a lie would be more convenient. It may be defending someone who is being treated unfairly. It may be speaking about our faith when others would rather avoid the topic. When we remember that our lives are in God's hands, we become less concerned about what others think and more concerned about remaining faithful to Him. The courage Jesus speaks about is not loud confidence. It is the steady decision to follow Him even when it costs us something.
Is there an area of my life where fear is stopping me from doing what I know God is asking of me?
Lord Jesus, help me to trust You more than my fears. Give me the courage to live according to Your truth and to remain faithful when it is difficult. Teach me to place my confidence in You and not in the approval of others. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

**SPEAKER_1** (6:08)
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
