Forget Me Not

June 14, 2026

Is there someone we are struggling to forgive, or a situation where pride is stopping us from responding with grace?
**SPEAKER_2** (0:40)
June 15, 2026, Monday of the 11th week in Ordinary Time. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:52)
You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you, don't resist him who is evil. But whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. If anyone soothes you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him too.
Give to him who asks you, and don't turn away him who desires to borrow from you.

**SPEAKER_2** (1:25)
The Gospel of the Lord.
Jesus said to his disciples, You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Most of us know how easy it is to react when someone hurts us, disrespects us, or treats us unfairly. We want to defend ourselves, prove a point, or make the other person feel what we felt. It feels natural. But Jesus speaks about something deeper. He's not asking us to become weak or allow abuse. He's teaching us not to let bitterness control our hearts. There is strength in choosing mercy when anger feels easier. There is freedom in not carrying revenge wherever we go. Going the second mile means doing more than what is expected, even when nobody notices. It may mean replying gently instead of harshly. It may mean helping someone who has not been kind to us. It may mean letting go of the need to win every argument.
That kind of response is difficult because it goes against pride. Yet, it reflects the heart of Christ. Jesus himself carried the cross for people who mocked him. He continued to love even when others rejected him.
Sometimes the second mile is not about changing another person. It is about protecting our own heart from becoming hardened.
Is there someone we are struggling to forgive? Or a situation where pride is stopping us from responding with grace? Lord Jesus, teach us to walk the second mile with love and wisdom. Help us not to be ruled by anger, resentment or pride. Give us the strength to respond in ways that reflects your heart even when it is difficult.
Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day, He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there, He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

**SPEAKER_1** (5:21)
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
