He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter. Andrew, his brother. James, the son of Zebedee.
John, his brother. Philip. Bartholomew. Thomas. Matthew, the tax collector. James, the son of Alphaeus. Labias, who was also called Thaddeus. Simon, the Canaanite. And Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, saying, Don't go among the Gentiles, and don't enter into any city of the Samaritans.
Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

The Gospel of the Lord. Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. The names of the twelve apostles are these.
When Jesus chose the twelve apostles, he did not gather the most powerful, educated or influential people of his time.
They were ordinary men with different backgrounds, personalities, strengths and weaknesses. Yet, Jesus called them by name and entrusted them with his mission. This reminds us that God often works through people who do not appear extraordinary in the eyes of the world. What mattered was not their perfection, but their willingness to follow Christ and learn from him. Many of us feel unqualified when faced with responsibilities, challenges or opportunities to serve others. We focus on what we lack instead of remembering who has called us.
The apostles themselves would make mistakes, struggle with fear and sometimes fail to understand Jesus' teachings. Yet, he continued to guide and shape them. God does not wait for us to become perfect before inviting us to take part in His work. He calls us as we are and helps us grow along the way. Where might God be inviting you to serve, trust or step forward even though you feel inadequate or unprepared?
Lord, thank You for calling ordinary people to do Your work. Help me not to focus on my limitations, but to trust in Your guidance. Give me the courage to follow where You lead and the willingness to serve with a faithful heart. Amen.

He descended into hell. The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
