Well, but Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, Daughter, cheer up, your faith has made you well. And the woman was made well from that hour. When Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder, he said to them, Make room, because the girl isn't dead but sleeping. They were ridiculing him. But when the crowd was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose. The report of this went out into all that land.

The Gospel of the Lord While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him and said, My daughter has just died, but come, lay your hand on her, and she will live. Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples. A woman, suffering hemorrhages for 12 years, came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured. In today's Gospel, two people come to Jesus carrying deep pain. A father has just lost his daughter. A woman has suffered from hemorrhages for 12 years. Their situations are different, yet both turn to Jesus with trust. The official believes that even after death, Jesus can bring life. The woman believes that even the slightest contact with him can bring healing. Neither of them approaches Jesus with a detailed plan. They simply believe that he is their hope.
There are times when we also carry burdens that seem beyond our ability to fix. We may have prayed for a long time, struggled with the same problem, or faced a situation that appears impossible. In those moments, faith is not about having complete certainty about what will happen. It is about continuing to bring our needs to Jesus.
The woman did not make a speech. She reached out. The official did not demand proof. He came and knelt before the Lord.
Their actions remind us that faith often begins with the simple movement of the heart toward Christ.
Jesus never ignored either of them. He saw their trust and responded with compassion. What burden, worry or unanswered prayer do I need to place into Jesus' hands today instead of carrying it alone? Lord Jesus, sometimes we come to you with questions, fears and hopes that seem too heavy to bear. Give us the trust to keep turning toward you even when we cannot see the outcome.
Help us to reach for you as the woman did, and to believe in your power as the official did. Strengthen our faith and draw us closer to you each day. Amen.
