July 3, 2026, Feast of St. Thomas, Apostle. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, wasn't with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. After eight days, again his disciples were inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, the doors being locked, and stood in the middle, and said, Peace be to you. Then he said to Thomas, Reach here your finger and see my hands, reach here your hand and put it into my side. Don't be unbelieving, but believing.
Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus said to him, Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.

The Gospel of the Lord. Thomas, called Didymus, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, We have seen the Lord. But Thomas said to them, Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Thomas often gets remembered for his doubt, but this passage also reveals his honesty. He did not pretend to believe when he was struggling. He spoke openly about what was in his heart. Many of us can relate to Thomas. There are moments when prayers seem unanswered, when suffering does not make sense, or when God feels distant. During those times, faith can become difficult. We may wonder if God is truly present in our situation. What stands out is that Thomas did not walk away from the community of disciples. Even with his doubts, he remained among them. And when Jesus appeared again, he did not reject Thomas for his questions. Instead, Jesus met him where he was. This reminds us that faith is not the absence of questions. Faith is continuing to seek Jesus even when we do not have all the answers.
God is patient with our struggles and understands the burdens we carry.
The story of Thomas encourages us to bring our doubts honestly before the Lord rather than hiding them. Jesus can handle our questions. He invites us to come closer and trust him. What questions, disappointments, or uncertainties am I carrying today that I need to bring honestly before Jesus?
Lord Jesus, you know the questions and struggles within my heart. Help me to trust you even when I cannot see the full picture. Draw me closer to you, strengthen my faith, and teach me to keep seeking you each day. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day, He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there, He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
