While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him.
One said to him, Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you. But he answered him who spoke to him, Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? He stretched out his hand toward his disciples and said, Behold, my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.

The Gospel of the Lord. Someone told him, Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you. But he said in reply to the one who told him, Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly father is my brother and sister and mother.
Jesus' words may sound surprising at first. He was not rejecting his mother or his relatives. Instead, he was revealing that God's family is built on something even greater than blood ties. It is built on hearts that choose to follow the Father's will.
Every day, we meet people who are not related to us. Yet, they encourage our faith, pray for us, and walk beside us when life becomes difficult. In Christ, these relationships become a true spiritual family. They remind us that we never follow Jesus alone.
This Gospel also invites us to look at our own lives. It is not enough to know about Jesus or to call ourselves Christians. What matters is whether we are living according to God's will. Our choices, our words, our forgiveness, and our love for others show where our hearts truly belong. The good news is that Jesus welcomes everyone who desires to follow the Father. No matter our past, He invites us into His family where we are loved, accepted, and called to help one another grow in faith. Who has helped you grow closer to God, and how can you become that kind of person for someone else?
Heavenly Father, thank you for welcoming us into your family through your Son.
Help us to seek your will each day, and to love others as our brothers and sisters in Christ.
May our lives reflect your love in all that we do. Amen.
