Daily Gospel Reflections for Jul 18, 2026

July 18th, 2026, Saturday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

**SPEAKER_1** (0:22)
But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.
Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all, and commanded them that they should not make him known, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, Behold, my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my spirit on him. He will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not strive nor shout. Neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets. He won't break a bruised reed. He won't quench a smoking flax until he leads justice to victory. In his name, the nations will hope.

The Gospel of the Lord.
The Pharisees went out and took council against Jesus to put him to death. When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many people followed him, and he cured them all, but he warned them not to make him known.
Jesus knew that the Pharisees were plotting against him. He could have confronted them publicly or drawn attention to himself. Instead, he withdrew and continued healing those who came to him. His focus remained on the people who needed help, not on defending his reputation or proving his importance. There is something beautiful in that. Jesus was not driven by the need to be noticed. He did not measure success by how many people spoke about him. He simply remained faithful to his mission. We can easily become discouraged when our efforts go unseen or unappreciated. We may wonder whether our work, kindness or sacrifices matter when nobody acknowledges them. Yet Jesus shows us that faithfulness is more important than recognition. God sees every act of love, every hidden sacrifice and every good thing done with a sincere heart. We do not need applause to make our actions meaningful. What matters is remaining faithful to what God has called us to do.
Do I become discouraged when my efforts go unnoticed? Or am I willing to continue doing good simply because it is the right thing to do?
Lord Jesus, teach me to serve with a sincere heart. Help me not to seek recognition or praise from others. Give me the grace to remain faithful in the work you have entrusted to me, trusting that you see and value every act of love. Amen.
