Forget Me Not

July 13, 2026

What blessings, invitations, or nudges from God have I become so familiar with that I no longer pay attention to them?

July 14th, 2026, Memorial of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Virgin. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent.
Woe to you, Carazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the Day of Judgment than for you.
You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom, which were done in you, it would have remained until today. But I tell you, that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the Day of Judgment than for you.

The Gospel of the Lord. Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done since they had not repented.
Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
Jesus spoke these words to towns that had witnessed his miracles first hand. They had seen lives changed, heard his teaching, and experienced signs of God's presence. Yet many remained unchanged. The problem was not a lack of evidence. The problem was a lack of response. It is possible to become so familiar with God's gifts that we stop noticing them. We hear the Gospel often. We receive blessings, protection, opportunities, and second chances. Over time, what should move our hearts can become something we take for granted. Jesus' warning is not meant to condemn but to awaken. Every day, God continues to work in our lives. Sometimes through answered prayers, sometimes through people. He places in our path, sometimes through moments that invite us to turn back to. Him. The question is not whether God is present. The question is whether we are responding to. His presence. A heart that remains open to God never stops growing, no matter how many years have passed.
What blessings, invitations or nudges from God have I become so familiar with that I no longer pay attention to them?
Lord, thank. You for the many ways. You continue to work in my life. Forgive me for the times I have taken. Your grace for granted or failed to respond to. Your call. Give me a willing heart that recognizes. Your presence and follows. You each day. Amen.
