Forget Me Not

July 12, 2026

Is there an area of my life where I hesitate to follow Christ fully because I fear the reaction of others?
**SPEAKER_1** (0:10)
July 13th, 2026, Monday of the 15th week in Ordinary Time. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

**SPEAKER_2** (0:20)
Don't think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn't come to send peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me. He who doesn't take his cross and follow after me isn't worthy of me.
He who seeks his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward. Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly, I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.
When Jesus had finished directing his 12 disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.

**SPEAKER_1** (1:50)
The Gospel of the Lord. Jesus said to his apostles, Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace, but the sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And one's enemies will be those of his household.
Jesus' words can sound surprising at first. We often think of him as bringing unity, love and reconciliation. Yet here, he speaks of division. He is not encouraging conflict. Rather, he is reminding us that following him sometimes requires difficult choices.
There are moments when faith challenges the values of the world. There are times when doing what is right is misunderstood by those closest to us. Choosing honesty, forgiveness, integrity or obedience to God may not always receive support from family, friends or society.
Jesus never promised that discipleship would be free from tension. He calls us to place him first even when that comes at a personal cost. It's the dividing line between living according to God's truth and living according to human expectations. When we face opposition because of our faith, we can remember that Jesus understands. He walked that road before us. He remains with us, giving us the strength to stay faithful with love and humility.
Is there an area of my life where I hesitate to follow Christ fully because I fear the reaction of others? Lord Jesus, help us to remain faithful to You even when it is difficult. Give us wisdom, courage and a loving heart when our faith is tested. Teach us to stand firmly in Your truth while treating others with patience and kindness. Amen.
