A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

When he came to the other side, into the country of the Gyrgossines, two people possessed by demons met him there, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that nobody could pass that way.
Behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with you, Jesus, son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?
Now, there was a herd of many pigs feeding far away from them. The demons begged him, saying, If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of pigs. He said to them, Go. They came out and went into the herd of pigs, and behold, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the cliff into the sea and died in the water.
Those who fed them fled and went away into the city, and told everything, including what happened to those who were possessed with demons. Behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged that he would depart from their borders.

**SPEAKER_2** (2:14)
The Gospel of the Lord When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road. They cried out, What have you to do with us, son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?
The encounter in today's Gospel is striking. Before anyone introduces Jesus, before any discussion takes place, the demoniacs immediately know who he is. They recognize his authority and power.
What stands out is that the people around them avoided that road because of fear. The two men had become known for their violence and brokenness. Yet, Jesus walked toward them. He did not turn away from those whom others had given up on. There are moments when we carry wounds, habits, fears or burdens that seem too tangled to overcome. We may feel trapped by circumstances or by parts of ourselves that we wish were different. The Gospel reminds us that nothing is beyond Christ's reach. He sees the places we try to hide and still comes near. Jesus does not ignore darkness. He confronts it. His presence brings freedom because his authority is greater than anything that seeks to separate us from God.
The same Lord who approached those two suffering men still approaches us today, not with rejection, but with the desire to restore and heal. What area of my life do I need to bring honestly before Jesus instead of trying to manage it on my own?
Lord Jesus, you know every part of my life, even the places I would rather keep hidden. Help me to trust Your power and Your mercy. Draw me closer to You and free me from anything that keeps me from living fully in Your love. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day, he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there, he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
