Welcome to The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur, Yasmin Aliya Khan with you guys. Yas is also on Rebel HQ on YouTube, check that out. All right, we have an amazing show for you guys today. Apparently, live public executions are back. We're going to tell you about that. Ice shooting people in the streets is back. And why is that? We're going to explain. And there's a report out by this little media outlet claiming that Israel killed its own hostages.

That outlet is CNN. Super interesting story. So we've got a lot of news for you guys tonight.

So you know what? Let's get started.

SPEAKER_6 (7:47)

Around 4 PM this afternoon, a New Yorker was shot by ice agents in Marble Hill. Many of the facts surrounding this shooting are still unclear.

SPEAKER_4 (7:58)

And this particular case, we had taken all of our cautions to keep him from fleeing. He went ahead and fled because of the safety we escalated.

Or because of his escalation, we had to use force.

Cenk Uygur (8:16)

Yep, there's been an escalation, all right.

This is more about the midterm elections. Donald Trump has ramped up so-called enforcement, which is leading to some of the violence in the streets again. Yas has the whole story.

Yasmin Aliya Khan (8:29)

Yeah, unfortunately, I think you're right, Cenk, that we can start expecting to see a lot more ice violence leading up to the midterm. So yesterday afternoon, a federal ice agent shot a 28-year-old Dominican immigrant, Oscar Belgel, in the neck. He is alive and he's recovering, so that is good to know. But his five-year-old son, who was in the backseat of the car during the incident, he is understandably still very traumatized. Here's a reporting from the New York Times on that. Says the shooting happened at 4 PM in the Marble Hill neighborhood as agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement tried to arrest the man while he was in a car with a five-year-old boy believed to be a son in the backseat. Jessica Tisch, the police commissioner said at the news conference late Thursday night. And also according to the Associated Press, Tisch said that Belgel was pulling into a parking space when a federal officer in plain clothes approached with gun drawn, followed by another federal officer who also was not in uniform.

Belgel started to pull the car forward and then at least one of the officers fired seven rounds hitting the man below his left ear. So according to Zoran Mamdani, New York mayor, the federal officers were wearing construction vests and masks. And you can see that right here.

SPEAKER_6 (9:51)

Ice agents surrounded the man's vehicle before opening fire. They wore construction vests and masks that concealed their faces. There was no reasonable way to identify them as ice agents. School had just gotten out. The street was crowded with families and children. When ice agents opened fire, a five-year-old child, a five-year-old child was in the backseat of the car.

Thank God that child is physically unharmed.

Yasmin Aliya Khan (10:25)

And that's what's evident from body cam footage released by the New York Times. And you can take a look at that here.

We have some footage from that body cam. And you can see this is the car. We're looking, Cenk, we're looking for these ice agents. There's somebody there in a construction vest with a gun, but that's all we can see. And if that's what this person was seeing at the time that he was attacked, then it's horrible.

Cenk Uygur (10:51)

Yeah, I know that those are the police that arrived after the shooting and then they had to get them to the hospital. But another thing I got out of that, Yas, was that ice didn't look like they cared much about this guy's fate at all, just leaving him to bleed out and die maybe there. And the local police had to rescue him, and it's a good thing that they did.

But, I mean, the callousness with which ice treats all of us is abominable.
