Jim Cramer here to share with you a sample of my take on the market from today's CNBC Investing Club morning meeting.
When I look at numbers about how if quarter A was good, quarter B, I tend to not really take them with much credibility. But there is certainly something going on when you have a quarter where the S&P gains 5.5% and then the month of April, it's historically good, 15 out of 17 Aprils and then you've got this up five, you posted first gain 28 times, only four of those times is the index falling on an annual basis. These are what I call dispositive numbers. So it makes me feel, I don't say it would create hope because we have a Fed tightening cycle, but April comes in with a bang. And I know that we're going to get a dip ahead of the earnings, which we've got reports of banks next Friday, not this Friday, but I like what I see.
Jeff Marks (1:03)
Yeah, of course, and last April, you might remember was a pretty bad April, but so was the beginning of the year too. So there's this kind of negative momentum effect happening there. But yeah, and Jim, we're off to a strong start for the second quarter as well. April off to a nice move here, seeing the Dow outperform energy is really the story of the day today.
Jim Cramer (1:24)
Look, this was down last night, this was down double what it is now, okay? Because people feel that tech is not the way to play it, obviously energy, this has Chevron.
But I think that the story of the morning is that tech started low and it's been picking back up because I don't think people want to leave these stuff. Now, Mike Wilson, very smart strategist, was saying, don't be confused, these companies have a lot of cash, but they are not bad.
Don't buy them because of the balance sheet. But buy them because of excitement, because I think there's a... You know I'm a chat-chip ET guy, and I think there's a lot of excitement about a second, a new wave of tech. And that's what I'm going to talk about tonight, the new wave of tech.
Jeff Marks (2:03)
Yeah, absolutely, new wave of tech helping to lift stocks like Nvidia, Microsoft, another one as well, another key player.
Jim Cramer (2:11)
You know, I was working... My daughter makes cookies, she's a baker, and you need a website, okay? Well, you need copy and you need pictures. Well, Chat Sheet BT makes better copy and they can influence some pictures. Now, I mention it only because there are a hundred million people trying to do their own thing, whether it be on Shopify, Etsy. This is a boom for them because otherwise they'd hire someone.
So it's an empowering concept that doesn't get talked about.
Jeff Marks (2:35)
Right, not just text, it also does image creation as well.
