I'm Jim Cramer and you're about to hear a sample taken directly from today's CNBC Investing Club morning meeting. The market is trying to furiously figure out what to pay for earnings, given the fact that the forecast from so many companies is negative. So of course, we're giving back our gains from yesterday. We also have some worries, some job cut numbers from Challenger. Rates are flattish, but I think what matters the most, we're oversold. Now we're not really oversold, we're minus four. But the idea of selling anything into this morass is wrong. I've got a lot of technicians telling me to sell. I actually like that because they tend to speak in unison. I'm looking to buy.
Jeff Marks (1:43)
Sure, I mean, when you have the cash on hand too, you can certainly be a little bit more opportunistic. Made a round of buys two days ago, had another round of buys yesterday, crowd strike in the morning. Good buy. Goldman Sachs, Honeywell, Salesforce in the afternoon. And still looking to put some of that cash position to work. We're at about 11%, just rounding up to 11%. So when prices come down, you gotta look for discounts.
Jim Cramer (2:09)
And Jeff and I go over the list and we say, oh wow, well we sold some Starbucks very high, what should we do? We sold some Disney high, what should we do? What we do is called is against the grain. We will have an against the grain buy we're going to reveal in a few minutes. But if you're against the grain, if you sell CrowdStrike at the blended of 4.25, you're in incredible shape when negativity creeps in. We have huge negativity, my feeling last night on the CrowdStrike, don't wanna address that too much yet, is that George Kersh is gonna have a coiled spring. The last part of this year is gonna be so great that you're gonna wanna say, why didn't I buy it? And we are buying it.
Jeff Marks (2:51)
Yeah, and a lot of that negativity also stems from the economy, consumer spending, a lot of retailers are posting dismal forecast.
Jim Cramer (2:59)
Those are White House mandated numbers, because people say, how can I go put a good number up when I know it's ahead of us tariffs?
Jeff Marks (3:05)
Yeah, but what we keep pointing out as well is that a lot of the weakness is weather related. We had really good data provided by JPMorgan's retail analyst, Matt Boss, who tracks chase, credited debit card data, and he looked at it state by state and where there was favorable or even just neutral weather. Discretionary spending was unchanged first November, December, which were strong months. And then in extreme weather conditions, there was a notable deterioration. But I think what it shows is that when the weather gets good again and it will, I saw 60s next week in New York, we should see an uptick in spending.
Jim Cramer (3:41)
I mean, go back to the Texas Roadhouse Conference School, which was brilliant. Management was saying, look, we've got numbers of every store. Where the weather was bad, we had bad numbers. It was too cold to go out. And people just are so negative, they're not listening to the CEOs who are actually talking some common sense. The common sense is that if you, look at this, we brought this thing all the way down. Because we trust the CEOs, we wouldn't buy the stocks. If we didn't trust the CEO, we wouldn't buy Salesforce if we don't trust Mark Benny up.
