Jim Cramer here to share with you a sample of my take on the market from today's CNBC Investing Club morning meeting. We were talking off camera. Interest rates keep going higher. That's going to be negative for our stock market.
Jeff Marks (1:45)
It's troublesome. You saw the 10 year hit around 4 or 5 overnight, it came back down, futures looked better. Now it's back there again. Still unclear exactly what's going on, but you have to be mindful of it because it just makes everything cost more, borrowing costs more, which is not good for the economy.
Jim Cramer (2:04)
Right, and given the fact that the PPI was mild, I was hoping that interest rates would actually go down today. As it is, Larry Fink from BlackRock, who did a very good job for a quarter for our stock, was saying that tariffs could add $25,000 to a home. That is going the wrong way. I mean, the stock should be up.
Jeff Marks (2:23)
And that's the buying that the Fed is in, right? We did have a cooler CPI yesterday, a cooler PPI, but we don't really have the true impact yet of the tariffs.
Jim Cramer (2:30)
We don't.
Jeff Marks (2:31)
Now, latest on trade, you do have China retaliate. They go to 125% from 84
Jim Cramer (2:37)
So that's the end of trade with China. $438 billion and it's done.
Jeff Marks (2:41)
Yeah, I mean, look, you're seeing companies like Five Below, they're asking vendors to turn away products from China due to higher tariffs. Tesla reportedly stops taking orders in China for EVs imported from the US. And then China also, you know, they're clarifying tariffs on semiconductor chips based on where they're manufactured, not shipped from. So it's a negative for US fabs, like Intel or Texas Instruments.
Jim Cramer (3:06)
And by the way, let's not forget that the president is no friend of Apple. Even though Apple pledged $550 billion here, they still make phone, most of their phones in China. And the policy is to get out of China. You've got to get out of China unless you're going to lose the support of the president.
Jeff Marks (3:24)
Yeah, look, Apple's a problem. Apple's a problem, unless they, is some agreement between the US and China. Very hard to game that. Just very hard to game that.
Jim Cramer (3:33)
But I have to tell you, I am wavering when Apple own don't trade, cannot have a position that's the, that's oppositional to the president of the United States who's offering them no help, because the Chinese could turn against them too.
Jeff Marks (3:48)
I think that's fair. I, look, I think that's fair.
Jim Cramer (3:50)
It's sobering. I've never wanted to sell it, and I know that when I think about Samsung being such a net winner because South Korea's so favored by this administration, I cringe, but I recognize what we're up against here.
