My mind at this moment is running millions of miles per second. I mean, I'm telling you, now I had to figure out my next move, because they had me, they caught me.

There was no talking out of it.

Brad Stone (0:21)

And I'm Brad Stone.

SPEAKER_4 (0:22)

And on March 6th, we're back with a new season of Decrypted.

Brad Stone (0:28)

We'll bring you stories about the dirty underworld of corporate spies.

SPEAKER_5 (0:32)

Everybody hears about, like, someone breaking the window and stealing laptops. Like, that's almost like a cliché.

What people hear less about is, like, black mask, kind of a tool to break in the door, directed attack, two minutes in and out, that whole thing.

SPEAKER_4 (0:47)

The volatile rise of a new form of money.

SPEAKER_1 (0:51)

How much Bitcoin do you estimate you gave away during that period? Thousands and thousands. Of full Bitcoins, yeah.

SPEAKER_2 (0:57)

Thousands and thousands. More than 10,000, I would guess.

10,000 Bitcoin would be worth what?

SPEAKER_4 (1:04)

It would be worth $50 million, yeah. A quiet power broker for startups.

SPEAKER_2 (1:10)

I don't think VCs are trying to screw up those businesses intentionally. But the reality is, it's like if someone gives you a million dollars and says, like, oh, like, do what you want.

It's like a drug, and they learn to operate as a company that has the means to do things that they maybe shouldn't be doing.

Brad Stone (1:28)

And the consequences of irrevocable decisions.

SPEAKER_1 (1:31)

It's when it spiraled. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's when I really lost it.

And I just started hacking the planet, man.

SPEAKER_4 (1:38)

We'll have new episodes every Tuesday starting next week, on March 6
