Dan Rubenstein (0:02)

Welcome to The Solid Verbal.

Ty Hildenbrandt (0:03)

The Solid Verbal.

Dan Rubenstein (0:04)

Come after me. I'm a man.

SPEAKER_3 (0:07)

I'm 40

Dan Rubenstein (0:08)

I've heard so many players say, well, I want to be happy. You want to be happy for a day? Eat a steak.

SPEAKER_3 (0:13)

It's that woo woo.

Dan Rubenstein (0:14)

And now, Dan and Ty.

Ty Hildenbrandt (0:18)

Dan Rubenstein, my good man. Welcome back to the podcast. Question, does anybody ever refer to you as Danny Boy?

Dan Rubenstein (0:27)

No. I mean, like maybe somebody that doesn't know me as like a fun thing. But no, nobody. There are people who call me Danny.

Ty Hildenbrandt (0:35)

Right.

Dan Rubenstein (0:35)

We've talked about this probably on the bonus show that I was Danny until the first day of college. And so I've grandfathered in people that knew me, you know, high school, elementary school, whatever. But no, there's no Danny boys.

Ty Hildenbrandt (0:46)

I'm just wondering, the reason I thought of this is because I was reading one of these long, very detailed think pieces out on the worldwide web.

Dan Rubenstein (0:55)

Yeah, yeah.

Ty Hildenbrandt (0:56)

Talking about the perils of referring to somebody else as chief.

Dan Rubenstein (1:00)

Really?

Ty Hildenbrandt (1:00)

And I was just wondering, because usually that's kind of a derogatory thing. I just get a chief out of nowhere. And I was just wondering if anybody referred to you as Danny boy and if you viewed it as such.

Dan Rubenstein (1:09)

No, I like calling coaches skip. I think that's a nice throwback. But I don't go chief. I don't get the Danny boy thing.

But I appreciate you reaching out to see if it's appropriate or not. But no, I'm surprised you did not start the show with what am I going to say? Can you believe it's week six already?

Which I can because I have a fond recollection of it being week five last week. So good on you for moving past it.

Ty Hildenbrandt (1:36)

It is week six.

I am very excited. It is a loaded slate. It's going to be nuts this week. It's going to be even crazier next week. Things are building to week 10 as we get into November. Let's not put the cart before the horse.

Dan Rubenstein (1:52)

Okay, of course not.

Ty Hildenbrandt (1:53)

Let's stay here in the moment. Week six. We've got a huge giveaway this week, which we will discuss.

verballers.com is where you can go. If you want to sign up and play our run the board, pick them game. We've got 12 games on the slate. I've got the slate in front of me. We're going to talk through most of the games that you pick against the spread. You will be competing for a $500 Bass Pro Shops gift card. If you can believe it.

Dan Rubenstein (2:19)

Right.

Ty Hildenbrandt (2:19)

We will get into that in just a little bit. Of course, please do rate review and subscribe to the podcast, the show, wherever it is you find this content. We would love to have you in tow the rest of the season.

And if you've got something to get off your chest, yes, you can do so on social media. You can always email in at solidverbal at gmail.com. Dan, what is the nickname for Week 6? I'm beating around the bush here.

Dan Rubenstein (2:44)

You're all good.

Ty Hildenbrandt (2:46)

Where are we going with this? How are we feeling about Week 6?

Dan Rubenstein (2:48)

Well, you're a big, well, like the trust Ashanti guy, right? And we're reaching the point where we have an inkling. We have some sort of guidance in our minds that like, OK, this team seems like they're going to be pretty good. This team seems like they might be in rough shape.

But in a lot of instances, this week included. But sometimes this happens much earlier in the season. You get an opponent where you're like, OK, that sort of confirms what I was thinking. Or maybe that goes against everything I was thinking. Right. Last week, we thought like, well, Florida State's really struggling this season to do anything consistently on either side of the ball. In Virginia, like we kind of have an idea of what they are. And even if they don't win, you know, they have a good offensive line. The defense is opportunistic. And then Florida State completely trucks them. Right. And that sort of turns it on its ear. And so I think we've reached the point of the season where we suspect a lot of these teams are kind of who they are. But we have matchups this week that I think will confirm or debunk a lot of our September assumptions. And in the case of UCLA, they look very strong. They look like they're going to be pretty strong all season long. Going to Oregon is probably a different animal. Right. Nebraska has started off really well. Indiana, albeit in Lincoln, different animal. And vice versa. Right. Indiana's schedule is nothing terribly impressive. They've looked excellent against it for the most part. But this is a different level going to Lincoln to play a Nebraska team that looks pretty feisty. And you can go up and down with Kentucky and LSU. LSU looks good, but it's on the road. Kentucky's been performing. So I think you could use the term suspect. We're just like, I'm kind of suspect of this team. Or you could say like, I suspect they're good. And I have landed on us getting to Suspicious Minds Saturday.
