The Hammer and Nigel Show, hello, my name is Nigel. Jerry Lopez is filling in for Jason Hammer. Go straight to the hotline and bring on Breitbart News tech editor Colin Madine.

Colin, it's been a busy week for the president of the United States, talking with, having this big summit with President Xi. The UN, of course, is happening, but had this big summit with President Xi from China. One of the things they discussed was AI. You're the tech editor there at Breitbart. Big picture, what do you think the topics of conversation were between the two world leaders?

Colin Madine (0:36)

The United States and China, there's a big gulf between us on AI.

Some of it's philosophical. America has two approaches to AI, which mirrors what you see in software in general. There's closed source and open source. Open source can be worked on by anyone. That's what Meta is doing and some other companies. Closed source, when you think of, that's a lot of the AI you think of today, like open AI is chat CPT, right? China is all open source, so we're seeing a dynamic between these two types of AI. Another thing I'm sure they're talking about, Nigel, is China has been ripping off our AI now for years.

Nigel (1:19)

What hasn't China been ripping off of the United States? I'm sure we're hacking them. I'm sure we're both hacking each other, but seriously.

Colin Madine (1:28)

Well, the funny thing about it, here's a little laugh for you. The way they hacked the AI to essentially copy it, you know, to put it in terms, we all understand what China is doing to make a lot of their AIs. It's kind of like back in the day, we used to take a VHS tape and put a little tape over that spot, and then you could like record TV, right? Yes, old school. It's called distilling, okay? Yes. Yeah, it's old school. But here's the funny thing, and this is one of the most difficult things about AI.

We never know what to believe when they say, because what the AI industry says to us is, our machines are super smart, AI is approaching the intelligence of humans, it can do amazing things. Meanwhile, they turn around and say, yeah, our AI was not smart enough to recognize 50,000 addresses in China pounding us every day with weird questions, so they could copy our AI. It's like, which is it, guys? It's not both, right?

Nigel (2:30)

Hey, so my question is, we talk about loss of jobs, and a lot of times we talk about migrants, people coming over here taking low-income jobs, but now we're seeing those loss of jobs really being like corporate America.

Colin Madine (2:43)

Where is the line for AI?

Nigel (2:44)

Because eventually it's going to take over everything, right?

Colin Madine (2:46)

And it has no choice but to.

The executives want it to take over everything. They desperately want sort of a situation where there's not even a 1 percent anymore, probably like a tenth of a percent that owns everything, and everyone else is a serf, right? Because there's no jobs. AI does everything. That's their dream. That's their goal.

In many cases, we're seeing light-collar jobs disappear, and then the companies go, oh crap, we can't do whatever we needed these people to do with AI, and they hire them back. That's what happened with Ford. Ford hired a lot of guys like me with gray beards who knew every inch of the car, and their design philosophy and stuff, they replaced them with AI.

Now, they're desperately hiring those people back because AI did not fit the bill. We're going to see a lot of that back and forth. But there are troubling things, especially in white collar jobs, especially for young people. Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal put out a big article about how big of an impact AI and the AI buildout is on the economy. And they had this little line tucked away towards the end of the story. And this is the real concern. It's talking about a guy, he went to some fancy school to get a computer science degree, and he graduated. He's not working in computer science. He had to go become an electrician apprentice in Michigan or something like that, working on data centers, because he couldn't get a job. We don't want Americans who work hard to suddenly not have jobs. It's hitting the software guys first. They thought it would hit the coal miners and the car factory guys first.

Nigel (4:30)

We'll pivot here with Breitbart News tech editor Colin Madine to this idea that we're being, I don't know if we're being played by some of the AI sector, you know, regulate us. We need regulation or else we're all going to die. Just like the whole, just like climate change and just like the Green New Deal, we're all going to die here. And COVID, where if we didn't wear a mask and stand six feet apart and close schools and churches, but we kept the weed in the liquor shops, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, we're all going to die here. Colin, can you make sense of, and we're going to play a clip from Bill Gates here in just a second, but before I do that, maybe just make sense of some of these AI guys, these whistleblowers that have left the AI companies and saying that millions of people are going to die. And they're never really specific on how or when or whatever. So maybe just big picture.
