People don't know, the beginning of the season, Kobe had a party for the team to get together.

Shannon Sharpe (0:04)

Yeah.

Nick Young (0:05)

Happy stripper party. He taught me a little bit of swag, cause he had a party, had the bottles and the girls come, and then he had leave. Like you just won't see Kobe no more. Kobe was like, y'all have fun, and leave out.

Shannon Sharpe (0:16)

He out.

Nick Young (0:17)

I was like, man, thank you. That's swag, though.

Shannon Sharpe (0:20)

Thank you.

Nick Young (1:25)

Appreciate it, my man.

Shannon Sharpe (1:28)

Did we hook you up?

Nick Young (1:29)

Yeah, hey, that was a great intro. I'm still a little nervous. What you nervous for?

I seen a lot of people go home and they ain't got homes after. Why are you getting mad? I don't want to sleep on a couch tonight.

Shannon Sharpe (1:41)

Well, you're going to be straight.

Nick Young (1:42)

If you want to get the Iggy questions out now, you can get them out now.

Shannon Sharpe (1:47)

Now, Iggy, a couple of things. We're going to get the basketball stuff out of the way first. Who want the basketball stuff first?

Man, I appreciate you stopping by. I know you're busy. You got a busy schedule and everything that you're doing with the podcast space and being a father and doing all that other stuff. So give me some of your time today. I greatly, greatly appreciate that. Let's start with the Lakers. They're off season. They re-signed Austin Reaves, who you don't believe is a max player. LeBron is gone. Why don't you believe that Austin Reaves is a max player given the undrafted free agent and what he's turned himself into?

Nick Young (2:17)

Just because I don't feel like people are afraid of him.

Guys like that, you gotta have that fear coming into the game that he's gonna drop 20, might go for 40, like that James Horan type name or the Westbrooks back in the day. When you sign somebody that had to be a number two, I feel like a number two gotta be a real number two.

Shannon Sharpe (2:39)

You don't think he has the ability based on, because before LeBron came back, he was averaging 28 a night. It looked like he was well on his way to be an All-Star before he got nicked. So you don't feel that he has that fear factor? Obviously, he's not Luka. He's not Shay.

Nick Young (2:52)

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Shannon Sharpe (2:53)

But I believe that now that LeBron is gone and he's the clear-cut favorite number two, that he and Luka are gonna get all the shots, I think he can average somewhere between 26 and maybe even 30

Nick Young (3:03)

For sure. It's a difference between just getting shots up to me and winning. Somebody got to score. I always say that. One of the teams, somebody got to score. Somebody got to get those shots. Yeah. But I love Austin Reaves. I like Austin Reaves as a little wheel, my type of player, but to be the number two, I don't feel like that's gonna win a championship for sure.

Shannon Sharpe (3:24)

You look at the Lakers and what they have. Okay, they re-signed Austin. Luka is back, they signed Quentin Grimes. Laravia is back.

They go out and get Walker Kessler. They paid a boatload of money. Now, he's the guy that's under the gun. Now, this is the guy that Luka wanted. They talked about this all summer. Dave McMenamin and Ramona Sherbourne were reporting. They had this big meeting at Craig's. They laid out, Luka, this is what we got. LeBron's salary is gonna come off the books. We'll be able to go get you a big, we'll get you whatever you need to make it happen.

They're under a lot of stress to get further than what they got. They did get to the first round, but Luka didn't play. But they're under the gun to go a lot further in the Western Conference than what they went in the last several years.
