We're also streaming on Relevant Radio Plus and YouTube and Facebook, and connect to us any way that you can. You know, Brooke Taylor is going to be joining me in a moment here, and Brooke and I, we ended up covering the beatification of Bishop Fulton Shane. And I was just thinking about the mother of young Fulton, the miracle, the boy who received his miracle, James Fulton.
I was reading something about her over the weekend, and she recounted how, again, if you're not familiar with the story, let me give you a quick thumbnail of it.
She's pregnant, in utero, there's no heartbeat for this child. For 61 minutes, the doctors expected the baby to, the baby was dead, they turned to Fulton Shane.
This happened, he had no pulse because there was a knot in his umbilical cord and it tightened during delivery. And as the resuscitation efforts began, her husband actually baptized a little boy, but Bonnie kept calling upon Archbishop Fulton Shane to intercede. And here she is as this mother in anguish, reaching towards heaven with whatever word she could find and for 61 minutes, one hour, one minute, this baby had no heartbeat. And then medical personnel were prepared to declare him dead. And her invocations, her plea for God's mercy and to the intercession of Archbishop Fulton Shane pierced the clouds, pierced the heavens.
Her baby's heart began to beat. And despite the fears of brain damage and, because without an hour of any oxygen, it's not gonna be good. The boy was born completely healthy. Church ultimately recognized his healing as a miracle for Shane's beatification. But I love what she did because she never stopped praying.
St. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5 to pray unceasingly, right? Pray unceasingly. And we can all do that. We can do it right now. You can do it while you're driving, while you're folding laundry, while you're lying awake a bed in the middle of the night, when there's something heavy on your heart. Keep bringing God into the moment. Keep bringing God into whatever your trial, whatever your cross may be. And you can even say, Lord, I'm afraid. Or, I don't know how I'm gonna get out of this. Or, I don't see a resolution. Help me. And continue to pray. And ask boldly. I'll leave you with this. Ask boldly for that miracle.
Brooke Taylor (3:31)
Right?
Drew Mariani (3:31)
And don't limit God. Hold out that big cup, as I like to say. And today, as we pray this chaplet, maybe it's a great time to do that.
Brooke Taylor (3:39)
Right?
Drew Mariani (3:40)
Bring that person that you're praying for right now into the love and mercy of our Lord's merciful heart, or whatever you are facing, okay? And let even your weariness and be part of your offering.
Because we don't know how the story ends, right? With prayer, all things are possible. We'll just keep praying, Jesus, I trust in you. And we can turn to now, bless it, Fulton Sheen, just as his mother did. Brooke, it's great to have you with me today. Thanks for joining me. Always good to pray with you.
Brooke Taylor (4:10)
Good afternoon. Hi, Drew. Excited to pray together.
Drew Mariani (4:12)
It was great spending the Thursday afternoon with you and creating live coverage of Archbishop Fulton Sheen. What an incredible day that was.
Brooke Taylor (4:20)
It almost seemed like a dream. You just see the vestibule of heaven there and just such a historic day for our church. It's certainly beautiful with the graces. And as you're just recounting the story, continuing to unfold as I know there are miracles too that they're examining for his canonization. So it's just exciting to continue to follow.
Drew Mariani (4:41)
Anything on your heart, anything you want to pray for, anything you want to lift up?
Brooke Taylor (4:44)
Yes, please. As you talked about baby James there, a dear, dear friend of ours, Mary and her husband Aaron, pregnant in the second trimester. They have five children already and just found out today, it looks like they lost the baby. And so I just want to pray for Mary and Aaron and their family.
