Do you have any hats? What kind of hat do you wear?
Do you wear a fancy hat, a straw hat, maybe you wear a baseball cap, newsboys cap, there's all kinds of different hats or caps that you can wear on your head, or a bonnet, if you're a girl.

There's so many different kinds of hats. And today's story is just about that very same thing.

It's in fact about caps.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:34)
Today's story is called Caps for Sale. And it is the tale of a peddler and some monkeys and their monkey business. I know monkeys. Yeah, it's true. Today's story was told and illustrated by Isafir Sobadkina. And it is read today by Mommy. And who are you today?
You look like a bug.
You look like a bug in a shell.

Okay, you look like a bug in a shell that is rolled up into a pill.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:19)
Are you a pill bug or a roly poly?
Yes? You guys, I have a roly poly pill bug today with me. I think you'll be my pet. Would you like that?

Excellent. Let us read today's story.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:36)
Once there was a peddler who sold caps, but he was not like an ordinary peddler carrying his wares on his back. He carried them on top of his head. First, he had his own checked cap, then a bunch of gray caps, then a bunch of brown caps, then a bunch of blue caps, and on the very top a bunch of red caps. And we can see these caps in the picture. There are many of them. I wonder if his head gets hot.
He walked up and down the streets, holding himself very straight, so as not to upset his caps.

And as he went along, he called, Caps, caps for sale, 50 cents a cap.

**SPEAKER_5** (2:38)
Caps, caps for sale, 50 cents a cap.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:45)
Which I think might be the cheapest I have ever heard a cap be. Wouldn't you agree?
One morning, he couldn't sell any caps.

**SPEAKER_6** (2:55)
He walked up the streets, and he walked down the street calling, Caps, caps for sale, 50 cents a cap.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:06)
But nobody wanted any caps that morning. Nobody wanted even a red cap.
He began to feel very hungry, but he had no money for lunch.

**SPEAKER_5** (3:18)
I think I'll go for a walk in the country, said he.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:24)
And he walked out of town slowly, slowly, so as not to upset his caps. He walked for a long time until he came to a great big tree.

**SPEAKER_7** (3:35)
That's a nice place for a rest, thought he.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:40)
And he sat down very slowly under the tree and leaned back little by little against the tree trunk, so as not to disturb the caps on his head. And then he put his hand to feel if they were straight. First, his own checked cap, and then the gray caps, and then the brown caps, and then the blue caps, and then the red caps on the very top.
And they were all there.

So he went to sleep.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:12)
He slept for a long time.

When he woke up, he was refreshed and rested.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:24)
But before standing up, he felt with his hand to make sure his caps were in the right place. All he felt was his own checked cap.
He looked to the right of him, no caps.

He looked to the left of him, no caps.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:49)
He turned in back of him, no caps.

**SPEAKER_3** (4:54)
He looked behind the tree, no caps. And then he looked up into the tree.

And what do you think he saw?

**Lisa Bueno** (5:08)
Do you think he saw no caps? Oh, no, my friends, on every branch sat a monkey. On every monkey was a gray or brown or a blue or a red cap.
The peddler looked at the monkeys.

The monkeys looked at the peddler.

**SPEAKER_8** (5:35)
He didn't know what to do. Finally, he spoke to them.

**Lisa Bueno** (5:42)
What do you think he's going to say?

**SPEAKER_4** (5:44)
Is he going to say, get down from that tree, you nasty monkeys and give me back my hats?
