Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Hello and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 285 I'm your host, Perry Romanoski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.
Valerie George (0:30)
Hey, Perry.
Perry Romanoski (0:32)
How are you today?
Valerie George (0:33)
I'm doing great. Just getting better and better every day.
Perry Romanoski (0:38)
Excellent, and yeah, it's always good to get better. Well, you know what is getting better is the questions we're answering today, and those are going to be, what's the difference between cleansing oil and facial oil?
Do oils hydrate or moisturize, and are there oils that we would recommend? Always looking for recommendations, aren't people? Can you mix foundation with sunscreen to make a tinted sunscreen? Can a sunscreen help boost vitamin D production, and is mixing too many products at night a problem?
But first, how about some of our famous and named chit-chat? You're doing good, I'm doing good. Actually, you know what I was thinking about was your reading project.
Valerie George (1:22)
My reading project? Oh no.
Perry Romanoski (1:25)
Weren't you supposed to read like 50 books this year or something like that?
Valerie George (1:29)
You know, I was, and I didn't get to it. I'll tell you why, couple reasons.
I have a very demanding job. Yeah. Very, very demanding. Like, you know, there's a lot of cosmetic chemists online. And you know, when I was just formulating, life was pretty easy, but I have, I have a lot of responsibilities at a very large corporation.
Perry Romanoski (1:51)
You do, yeah.
Valerie George (1:53)
I work a lot, I travel a lot, not as much as during COVID as pre-COVID. But then also I started a business and that takes a lot of time. So I've posted like four or five books that I read this year on Instagram. I've read a lot more, not a lot more, maybe like double that I haven't posted about. So that's like a total of 10
And I've done a lot of audio books. But for me, that's different because it just feels different to me because I'm not curled up. I don't have a yummy beverage and I'm not listening to the pitter-patter of rain on the roof.
Perry Romanoski (2:32)
Ah, yes. You paint such a nice picture.
Valerie George (2:33)
So it's just different. So I didn't hit the book goal, but I feel like it's pretty justified, you know?
Perry Romanoski (2:39)
Oh, absolutely. I mean, we all fill our times with the most important things at the moment. And book reading is important, but you're starting a new business.
Well, you know, I read, I've read, I almost caught my goal, which I had a goal of 70 books. And I think I have 68 read so far, but I wanted to point out one that I've read since I've talked to you last was Pandora's Lab. Seven Stories of Science Going Wrong.
Valerie George (3:10)
Oh.
Perry Romanoski (3:10)
A pretty, pretty good book, which kind of, do you remember that book you tip me off to about the beverages that change the world?
Valerie George (3:18)
The six beverages, which I really loved because it's like coffee, wine, beer, three of my favorite things.
Perry Romanoski (3:24)
Well, this is like seven technologies that kind of screwed up the world, which is kind of interesting.
Valerie George (3:29)
Wow. I'd love to read that.
Perry Romanoski (3:32)
One to put on the list for next year. Maybe, you know, next week, I thought, I thought maybe we won't get another show in before the end of the year, but if we do, we could look back on our show where we predicted what would happen this year. I don't know how well we did.
Valerie George (3:45)
I would love to do that. And I have some pretty exciting stuff I'd love to share. So I think we're gonna put one out.
Perry Romanoski (3:52)
All right. Shall we get to some questions?
Valerie George (3:55)
Let's go.
Perry Romanoski (4:00)
All right. You know what I promised last week, and we're gonna do it this week? All audio questions.
What? Yeah, yeah. So our first question.
Ms. Young (4:10)
Hello, Perry and Valerie. This is Ms. Young, one more time, all the way from Nepal. And first of all, I would like to thank both of you for answering my question last time. It was really nice of you guys.
So today I'm here with another question about cleansing oil and facial oil. What is the difference between these two oils? Can we use facial oil as a cleansing oil and vice versa? Or maybe cleansing oil has some kind of surfactants in it.
