Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Hello, and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 276 I'm your host, Perry Romanoski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.
Valerie George (0:31)
Hi, Perry.
Perry Romanoski (0:32)
Valerie, so good to have you back off the trade show circuit.
Valerie George (0:36)
Yep, I'm also glad to be back.
Perry Romanoski (0:39)
Yeah, and be back from vacation, but we'll get to that after we tell you what we're going to cover today. On today's show, we've got a number of good questions.
First, can you mix your vitamins and acids? And we're talking about skincare there, not your...
Valerie George (0:55)
Psychedelics...
Perry Romanoski (0:55)
.beacon beverages. All right, exactly. Number two, we'll talk about how and whether products like DefenAge and O2 Skin Pro powder actually work. Is ORG Mineral Face Peel a gimmick?
How long should it take you to see results from a nifty new skincare device? And are you actually rusting, not aging anymore?
Valerie George (1:20)
Oh my gosh, that doesn't feel good. No way.
Perry Romanoski (1:24)
It does not. But before we get to all of that, Valerie, last time I spoke with you, you were in Las Vegas at Cosmoprof?
Valerie George (1:33)
I was. Las Vegas, Cosmoprof is an annual trade show put on by the Professional Beauty Association, and it is really focused on finished consumer product goods, much like many of the brands we see in stores. They do have some small, you know, sections for manufacturers and packaging companies, but primarily it's supposed to be about finished products, so that's where I was at.
Good old Las Vegas.
Perry Romanoski (2:00)
You know, Cosmoprof is actually important to the Beauty Brains in that that was where you and I met up and decided to restart the Beauty Brains back in...
Valerie George (2:10)
What was it? 2018
Perry Romanoski (2:12)
2018, I think. Three, almost three years ago.
Valerie George (2:16)
Yeah. Three years ago for sure.
Perry Romanoski (2:19)
I think I was speaking there, or maybe I was speaking in 2017, and then in 2018, my wife was there for her company, so yeah, there you go.
But you go every year, and it sounds like a good one. Was it a good show this year, or a little less attended?
Valerie George (2:35)
You know, it was a little anemic, because a large part of the show is an international base, and they obviously couldn't come because of COVID, and a lot of people just didn't show up. A lot of booths were empty.
Perry Romanoski (2:54)
I think it's going to be a little time before trade shows completely come back. But beauty companies are still launching products, it seems.
Valerie George (3:01)
They are more than ever, I think.
Perry Romanoski (3:05)
Well, I just got back from a driving vacation to the Finger Lakes area of New York, which I had never heard about.
But there are all these lakes that were dug out by glaciers, and most importantly, there were a bunch of wineries around the lakes. So you go there and drink wine.
Valerie George (3:21)
The most important feature, yes.
Perry Romanoski (3:24)
Indeed. And there were decent wines, I guess.
It was almost comparable to Napa, but maybe not quite. Wine is always good, right? But another cool thing at this area, they had a bunch of waterfalls. So I got to go and see a bunch of different waterfalls, including the granddaddy of them all, Niagara Falls, which is, yeah, which that's a big fall. So I have to say, every time I go by the falls, I have this, I have to fight this urge to jump in and see what it would be like going over it.
Valerie George (4:00)
As you plummet to your death, for sure.
Perry Romanoski (4:04)
Although some people have made it over the falls without dying, so not many, not many, but yeah.
Valerie George (4:11)
I did a little driving trip myself to Texas, yeah.
Perry Romanoski (4:14)
Well, that's not a little drive, that's a bit of a drive.
Valerie George (4:17)
That's a big drive, especially when you hit Texas, you're like, woohoo! And then you're like, oh my god, it's so big.
Perry Romanoski (4:24)
Texas is a big state, and there's a lot of that state where there's a lot of nothing, there's just a lot of open land.
Valerie George (4:29)
Oh, it's so beautiful. That's what we love about it.
