Have you been following the Caleb Flynn case?
My God.
It's one of those cases where you go, are you really that dumb? I think the answer is yes. Body camera footage from Tip City, Ohio, just past 2.3 in the morning on February 16th. It shows a car pulling up at 932 Cunningham Court. It's Jill Smith, and she's just been delivered the absolute worst news a parent could ever hear. Her daughter is dead. Caleb Flynn meets her out on the front porch. He starts wailing, his knees buckle, and an officer literally has to grab him and haul him back onto his feet. Hedwig the performer!
Then he broke into a rendition of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, and it was touching. It really was. There was a spotlight, and it was like, oh, this is how you commemorate your wife dying. You break into song on your porch as your mom shows up. Okay, no, that part didn't happen. But for the spectacle that Caleb Flynn was putting on, and, you know, genuinely grateful, yeah, I think I'd be in a corner, personally, in a ball, probably shaking and asking to leave the planet. Caleb didn't do that. Then he and his mother-in-law wrapped their arms around each other, right there on the lawn. The girls don't know, he tells her sobbing. The girls are sleeping.
You got police going through the house. Apparently, there's been two gunshots in there that night that you already know about that nobody else knows about, and somehow they're still in bed sleeping. That's interesting. Now, wind the clock back just a few hours, prosecutors say that very same man was sitting there typing a text message to the woman he was secretly sleeping with. And what do those text messages say? I choose you. I'm free. Actions will come tomorrow, February 16th, a day I'll never forget. Jesus! Could you be a little more specific, Caleb? Could you identify the type of gun that might be used, or the, the re-bullet that's gonna be used in this crime? Would you like to give us a time window, maybe a little log or something? You know, I choose you, I'm free. Actions will come tomorrow, February 16th, a day I'll never forget. It's so theatrical. It's so self-aggrandizing. You can just tell by the language, this is a man who thinks a lot of himself. And judging by the fact that we've learned that there's more than 100,000 text messages between him and his lover, this is a man who needs attention. Is it any chock though? I mean, the guy was, you know, he made it to Hollywood for American Idol.
One might guess that there's a lot of folks that are going on American Idol because they love attention. I'm not saying loving attention is a bad thing. But when you love it so much that you're going to execute your wife so you can get the attention of another woman, more direct just to you, there might be a bit of a problem. But it's certainly, if we're looking at a narrative here, if we're looking at a pattern of behavior, fits the mold. So which guy on that lawn was the real Caleb Flynn? Was it the soft spoken husband whose lawyer claims he was just whispering sweet nothings to keep a mistress on the hook? Or was it the man the state of Ohio says meant every single word he typed?
Prosecutor Paul Watkins opened his case by reading Caleb's text messages to his side piece right out loud in front of the courtroom. And sitting right there in the gallery hearing every word was Ashley's grieving father. I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying. This is a quote. This is a text. This is literally a text from Caleb Flynn to his side chick.
I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying, literally trying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail. That's some deep shit.
Oh, you were, were you?
I have a question for the person receiving these messages on the other side. What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you stay with someone who's saying things like that? That's insane. This isn't normal. I'm unhappy in my marriage. This is I'm plotting to kill my wife.
And the texts continue.
I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of sympathy or empathy for the bitch that stays for that shit.
There's your red flag if having an affair with the man who's married and his two children wasn't the red flag to begin with, who's not in any sort of active divorce situation.
