Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary

September 25, 2026

In the Caleb Flynn murder trial, prosecutors are building motive out of what the former American Idol singer typed to the woman he was seeing. Alleigha Botner took the stand for the state and read a March 2025 exchange with Flynn, message number by message number. He told her he'd been crying.

Have you been watching this? Oh my God.

Quite the testimony of the mistress of Caleb Flynn that has been on the stand now. We're going on day number two of her testimony. We're going to be breaking it down piece by piece because we have so many questions about where this is going, what she knew, when she knew it. Every woman watching this has the same question. I think most men probably do too. And it's the one the jury has to answer. When a man tells his girlfriend killer about his wife month after month, is he a monster or a coward who talks big? Ashley Flynn was shot twice in the head while she slept with her girls right down the hall. Eric Faddis has prosecuted and defended men and women who say things like this. And I want to know what a jury does with a year of it. And all of the things that we're seeing in this trial. He is joining us to help us have this discussion along with Robin Drake, retired FBI special agency for the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program and Master Class Instructor. Guys, we're going to go through some clips today from Ashley's, or from Alleigha's testimony in the trial here of Caleb Flynn. And then I want to get your reaction on the other side. And there's a lot to go through here. I want to start with this one. The prosecutor asking about how often he talked about wanting Ashley gone. Because if you've been watching this case, it seems to be an ongoing theme. It's not just a one-off of, Oh, I could kill her. No, it's like talking about how he's going to kill her, how he wants to kill her, how he wishes she was gone. If he won't go to hell, it would be great if she was dead. All the way up to now, we're seeing almost, he's literally asking in kind of a jest way, the lover, the mistress to kill her, if that would make things better. It's creepy, it's shocking.

He also is talking about very often how much he wants her dead. Let's listen to how it changes after the anniversary cruise that went on between Caleb and his wife, Ashley, and then this is the mistress Alleigha's reaction on the stand yesterday. Let's take a look.

SPEAKER_3 (2:33)

In your communications with the defendant, how many times did he express that he wished Ashley Flynn was not in his life?

Alleigha Botner (2:40)

Every week at least.

SPEAKER_3 (2:42)

How often would he use words to the effect that he wanted her gone?

Alleigha Botner (2:51)

Probably the same every week.

SPEAKER_3 (2:55)

How often would he make statements about wanting Ashley to die?

Alleigha Botner (3:01)

That's probably at least once a month.

SPEAKER_3 (3:06)

Can you describe what he said when he was stating things about wanting Ashley to die?

Alleigha Botner (3:14)

Yes. He said that he wishes he, if he could kill her and not go to jail or get arrested, if he got exactly what he said, that he would do it.

SPEAKER_3 (3:34)

When is the first time you are calling him making a statement like that?

Alleigha Botner (3:42)

I think it was the end of last year after the fact that they were on their cruise. When was the cruise?

August of last year.

SPEAKER_3 (3:55)

How did the defendant's statements about wanting Ashley to die continue over time?

Alleigha Botner (4:02)

They definitely continued.

It seemed like when he would say it, it just got worse the way he would say it. At first, it was, I want her dead, I wish she was gone, and then it was if I could kill her and not go to jail, I would. And when he was really late thinking about, told me that he was thinking about ways to kill her.

Tony Brueski (4:29)

When your lover is talking about how he wants her dead and talking about how he's waking up in the middle of the night thinking about ways to kill her, at what point is there some responsibility on the other person to notify someone, or is there? I mean, have you ever run into this, Eric, where somebody is like, well, they said it 500 times to me, but I never took them seriously?

Eric Faddis (4:53)

You know, we would think, right, that if a person is receiving information that an individual might kill another individual, it's probably best to tell somebody. It's probably best to take some sort of action that might prevent that. However, Tony, in most states, there is likely not an affirmative legal duty. One can receive that information to go tell the police. You probably do not have that requirement. And if something happens in the future, I think it'd be really hard to bring some sort of legal liability against the individual who simply possessed this ominous information and did nothing with it. We might want them to do something with it, but are they legally required to do something with it?
