Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
September 28, 2026
Cross-examination of Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan turned from what Tipp City police investigated in Ashley Flynn’s murder to what they didn’t. The defense pressed Morgan about moments where the interview video appeared not to line up with its audio. Then the questions moved to physical evidence.

Mike Morgan (0:11)
Thank you.
SPEAKER_3 (0:12)
Any cross-examination?
SPEAKER_4 (0:13)
Uh, yes, sir.
Mike Morgan (0:14)
Mr. Morgan, go ahead.
Tony Brueski (0:18)
I want it.
SPEAKER_5 (0:21)
So, Friday, you took the stand, initially, correct?
SPEAKER_6 (0:28)
Yes.
SPEAKER_3 (0:30)
And we talked about an initial interview, and you, uh, did you think that happened around the 4.3 in the morning? 4.8.
SPEAKER_7 (0:44)
Okay.
SPEAKER_8 (0:45)
So, around 4.3 in the morning, and that was at the Tip City Police Department, correct?
SPEAKER_6 (0:49)
Yes.
SPEAKER_7 (0:50)
And at that point in time, obviously, Caleb hadn't slept yet, correct?
Mike Morgan (0:57)
Not that I'm aware of.
SPEAKER_10 (0:58)
Okay. And during the playing of that interview, which I believe was in Civet 294, there seemed to be a delay on the sound.
SPEAKER_5 (1:09)
He would put his arm up, and then we would hear the cough later.
SPEAKER_10 (1:12)
Did you notice that on the video?
Mike Morgan (1:14)
Yes. After later returning it from our IT.
SPEAKER_5 (1:19)
Tell me, is that a common thing with the system, you have to record things, or that's just peculiar to that particular interview?
Mike Morgan (1:28)
It's just peculiar to that particular interview.
SPEAKER_7 (1:33)
Yes. So, I'll call it the second interview, which appeared to be on two different videos, the following day, around one parsley in the afternoon. Do you remember that?
Mike Morgan (1:51)
Which interview you're talking about?
SPEAKER_8 (1:54)
Exhibit 295, I'll call it the second interview, again at the station where he was wearing that red sweatshirt.
Mike Morgan (2:02)
That was the same day.
SPEAKER_7 (2:03)
I'm saying the same day, but that was later in the day, around 1.30. Yes.
Mike Morgan (2:09)
Approximately, I think it was 11.30.
SPEAKER_8 (2:14)
Okay.
SPEAKER_4 (2:15)
The video itself said it was like 1,300 and some.
SPEAKER_10 (2:19)
Is that 11 o'clock typically or is that correct?
Mike Morgan (2:24)
So our system, we were in the process of switching over to a new system. With that, we had been using audio recording, which I do have copies of the audio recording. We just wanted to make sure that we had video also in this case, so then nobody could say that we're, you know, forcing him to talk to us.
SPEAKER_4 (2:46)
Okay.
SPEAKER_8 (2:47)
So the interview at 428 a.m. and the interview the following morning or early afternoon, both of those were voluntary by Caleb, correct?
Mike Morgan (2:58)
Yes.
SPEAKER_12 (2:59)
He wasn't ordered by you to do it.
SPEAKER_8 (3:01)
He showed up on his own.
Mike Morgan (3:04)
Yes.
SPEAKER_8 (3:05)
Do you know if he had slept for that, prior to that second interview?
Mike Morgan (3:12)
I did not aware.
SPEAKER_10 (3:13)
Did you?
Mike Morgan (3:14)
Had I?
SPEAKER_10 (3:15)
Yeah.
Mike Morgan (3:16)
No, I had not. Okay.
SPEAKER_8 (3:18)
So basically from the time that you got there in the morning, I don't know exactly what time that was until at least that interview, you were working pretty much non-stop, correct?
Mike Morgan (3:33)
Yes.
SPEAKER_10 (3:34)
Okay.
SPEAKER_8 (3:38)
Then you've gone to X number of seminars in your time as a police detective, correct?
Mike Morgan (3:47)
Yes.
SPEAKER_8 (3:47)
And you're aware that many police departments have what is known as cold case units, correct?
Mike Morgan (3:59)
Yes.
SPEAKER_14 (4:00)
Tell the jury what a cold case unit does.
Mike Morgan (4:04)
They investigate homicides that are unsolved.
SPEAKER_8 (4:10)
You from your seminars know the number of unsolved homicides here in the United States.
Mike Morgan (4:18)
I couldn't tell you.
SPEAKER_11 (4:19)
There's more, correct?
Mike Morgan (4:20)
Yes.
SPEAKER_5 (4:22)
That's why they have these units.
SPEAKER_11 (4:24)
Yes.
SPEAKER_5 (4:25)
And big departments have those units, New York, Chicago and what have you, but even Dane, Ohio has one, correct?
Mike Morgan (4:33)
Yes.
Mike Morgan (4:37)
Yeah.
SPEAKER_8 (4:38)
During that second interview, you had discussions and you gave many explanations about physical evidence that could be detected. Do you remember those conversations?
Mike Morgan (4:53)
Yes, I do.
SPEAKER_8 (4:54)
And bottom line, you had a conversation first about Lupinol and the way I understood it, you were explaining where blood is cleaned off, this substance can be put on to determine if there was blood there.
SPEAKER_5 (5:11)
Do you remember that conversation that you had with Caleb?
Mike Morgan (5:14)
Yes, I do.
SPEAKER_14 (5:14)
Did you get any results from Lupinol testing at 932 Cunningham?
Mike Morgan (5:22)
