Mike Morgan (0:30)

Detective Sergeant.

SPEAKER_3 (0:32)

Mike Morgan (0:35)

I have a OPADA certification from Edison State Community College. I have mobile trainings in homicide and drug investigation along with EV Tech.

SPEAKER_3 (0:51)

Mike Morgan (0:53)

Approximately 17 years.

SPEAKER_3 (0:55)

How long have you been with Tip City Police?

Mike Morgan (0:57)

Nine years.

SPEAKER_3 (1:00)

In your current role as Detective Sergeant, what are your responsibilities?

Mike Morgan (1:04)

I oversee the detective section. I assign cases to the detectives and overseeing the investigation of those assignments.

SPEAKER_3 (1:15)

Were you assigned to investigate the death of Ashley Flynn on February 16th of 2026?

Mike Morgan (1:20)

Yes, I was.

SPEAKER_3 (1:21)

What was your role in that investigation?

Mike Morgan (1:24)

I was the case investigator. And generally, what did you do?

So I arrived to the scene, took a report on what was reported to the sergeant of the road that night.

SPEAKER_3 (1:41)

How were you first notified of ESM?

Mike Morgan (1:44)

Captain Smith.

SPEAKER_3 (1:46)

How did he inform you?

Mike Morgan (1:47)

By telephone.

SPEAKER_3 (1:49)

What did you do after you received that call?

Mike Morgan (1:51)

I responded to the scene.

SPEAKER_3 (1:54)

Could you please describe the scene when you arrived?

Mike Morgan (1:57)

At that time, there was a large police presence. There was approximately 10 officers on scene. They had taped off the surviving area to the residence.

SPEAKER_3 (2:11)

Did you speak with the defendant at that time?

Mike Morgan (2:14)

Yes, I did. I met him outside of the residence, at which time I asked him for permission to walk inside of the residence and he signed the consent form.

SPEAKER_3 (2:29)

After you had his consent, what did you do?

Mike Morgan (2:31)

I walked to the scene. I entered the master bedroom just briefly inside the door, not to disturb any evidence.

SPEAKER_3 (2:42)

What did you do in the master bedroom?

Mike Morgan (2:44)

There was two shell casings on the floor and it appeared there was a female laying in the bed on the north side of the bed with some kind of head injury.

SPEAKER_3 (2:56)

Did you observe anything else of note in the bedroom, just stepping in the coffee?

Mike Morgan (3:00)

Yeah, there was pillows and a blanket up by the dresser area of the bedroom.

SPEAKER_3 (3:09)

Anything else?

Mike Morgan (3:10)

Yeah, the bedroom was very, very clean.

SPEAKER_3 (3:19)

How would you describe the victim's position in clothing?

Mike Morgan (3:25)

She appeared to be asleep. She looked like she was in a resting position.

Caleb Flynn (3:30)

She looked like she was in night clothes.

SPEAKER_3 (3:33)

Did you also examine the garage area during your initial walkthrough?

Mike Morgan (3:37)

Yes, I did. So after walking the bedroom, the master bedroom area, we exited that area, entered the garage, and we initially saw a center console to the Ford F-150 up in the vertical position.

SPEAKER_3 (3:57)

What significance did that center console being up have?

Mike Morgan (4:01)

Later on in the investigation, we were informed that there was possibly a gun located in that center console.

SPEAKER_3 (4:12)

Did you observe a side door in the garage?

Mike Morgan (4:15)

Yes, I did. So as we made our way around the Ford F-150, we were looking at the north wall of the garage, where it appeared that that door was open with a refrigerator butted up against it.

SPEAKER_3 (4:29)

To approximately what degree is that refrigerator?

Mike Morgan (4:32)

It looked like a 45-degree angle.

SPEAKER_3 (4:38)

Were you able to observe the condition of the door?

Mike Morgan (4:41)

Yes. So not getting too close, we just looked at it briefly.

It appeared that there was damage to the inside where the receiver of the deadbolt would be, and there was no damage that would be corresponding to that to the frame.

SPEAKER_3 (5:03)

Did you later examine the door more closely?

Mike Morgan (5:06)

Yes.

SPEAKER_3 (5:08)

And based on your training, education and experience, was the damage to that door consistent? Was forced entry from the outside?
