SPEAKER_4 (1:20)

What specialized training have you received as an FBI agent permanent in digital forensics?

Andrea Kinzig (1:26)

In April of 2018, I completed a CART tech pre-assessment course. That is a course on computer concepts, particularly as they relate to computer examinations. In May of 2018, I completed a digital extraction practical sponsors course. That is a course on the use of FBI approved tools and procedures for conducting forensic extractions and images of digital media and for searching and extracting data from that media.

Since then, I've been required to complete annual refresher training on both the CART tech pre-assessment program and the digital extraction technician program. Those are online courses with a test at the end of the course that is required to be passed in order to keep those certifications.

I also, in April of 2020, I completed a Celebrite Certified Operators course, which is a two-day course on conducting data abstractions from mobile devices utilizing tools offered by Celebrite. I've also, over the years, attended various other webinars and training events that are offered by the FBI and other agencies such as the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that relate to digital extractions, processing, and analysis.

SPEAKER_4 (2:54)

What specialized training have you received as an FBI agent turned into a homicide investigation?

Andrea Kinzig (2:59)

I have received various general training. A lot of the training that I've received is through my participation in the FBI's Child Abduction and Rapid Deployment Team. I've also received training through the FBI's Evidence Response Team, including Medical Legal Investigation of Death, which was a course offered by the Wayne County, Michigan Medical Examiner's Office.

I attended a course called Recovery of Human Remains, which was offered by the University of Tennessee Anthropology Research Facility, and I also attended a course called Mapping of Skeletal Remains, which was offered by the FBI's Evidence Response Team.

SPEAKER_4 (3:46)

What type of cases do you investigate in the blood, urine, and chart?

Andrea Kinzig (3:51)

The first approximately year or so, I primarily worked financial crimes, white-collar crimes, bank robberies, and just other general filed crimes. For the next four years, I primarily worked investigations involving drug offenses, firearms offenses, and gang activities.

SPEAKER_4 (4:13)

What types of investigations do you handle here and day?

Andrea Kinzig (4:18)

Again, for the first year, year and a half, I worked on a variety of investigations, but for the past 14 or so years, I have primarily worked crimes against children in human trafficking matters. Crimes against children at the federal level generally involves child pornography investigations, online travel offenses, interstate travel offenses, child abuse cases on government reservations, child abductions and child sex trafficking.

SPEAKER_4 (4:45)

You previously mentioned being part of the CARD team. Is that involved in specialized training involving crime news children?

Andrea Kinzig (4:58)

Yes.

The Child Abduction and Rape and Deployment Team is a team of FBI agents and analysts who are available to deploy nationwide to assist state and local law enforcement agencies with investigations involving child abductions and other mysterious disappearances of children. We receive or we have annual conferences that involve case debriefings and various other training involving child abductions and missing children investigations.

SPEAKER_4 (5:26)

How long have you been a member of the CART?

Andrea Kinzig (5:28)

Since 2015

SPEAKER_4 (5:30)

You mentioned earlier some certifications from Celebrite. Are you trained as a digital extraction technician?

Andrea Kinzig (5:39)

Yes. That is a term that the FBI uses as a digital evidence extraction technician to refer to employees who are authorized to conduct or create forensic extractions in images and devices and to search and extract data from those images and extractions.
