SPEAKER_1 (0:26)
And where are you employed, sir?
Zachary Farkus (0:28)
I'm employed with the City of Aden Police Department and I am a full-time task force member with the FBI's Safe Street Task Force.
SPEAKER_4 (0:38)
What is a task force officer?
Zachary Farkus (0:40)
A task force officer is a individual from a local police department that assists either the FBI, DEA, and investigations basically to up their numbers and assist in investigations.
SPEAKER_4 (0:57)
What's the Safe Streets Task Force with the FBI?
Zachary Farkus (1:00)
The primary purpose of Safe Streets is to focus in on violent crimes in the Southern District of Ohio whether it's homicide, court case, drugs, guns, or anything like that. What part of the state does that encompass?
SPEAKER_4 (1:14)
Is that I-70 South?
Zachary Farkus (1:16)
Yeah, so it's going to be I-70 South heading down into Cincinnati and then goes over towards Columbus and then back down that other section of the state.
SPEAKER_4 (1:26)
In major cases in that part of the state, you're often involved?
Zachary Farkus (1:31)
Yes.
SPEAKER_4 (1:33)
How long have you been employed as a TFO with the FBI Dayton?
Zachary Farkus (1:37)
So, it's all right. I've been with the FBI approximately 18 months now.
SPEAKER_4 (1:41)
And before that position, what was your law enforcement experience?
Zachary Farkus (1:45)
So, I started with the Dayton Police Department as a street courier in 2008
From there, I moved to financial crimes as an investigator, then sexual assault. I spent eight years as a active homicide investigator and the last two years, I would focus on cold case homicides and sexual assaults.
SPEAKER_4 (2:07)
Have you received specialized training in homicide investigation?
Zachary Farkus (2:12)
So, yes. In 2014, I attended Boydville's Homicide Force, or Homicide Investigation Force, which is a two-week program.
SPEAKER_4 (2:25)
What training have you received and what I've seen processing in evidence collection?
Zachary Farkus (2:29)
Outside of the standard, general law enforcement officer in State of Ohio has to go through OPADA, which is the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy, and we received, I believe it's a very minimal amount of evidence, through evidence collection, but we received the basic knowledge to locate and obtain evidence.
SPEAKER_4 (2:56)
Detective Farkus, I'd like to direct your attention to February 17th of 2026 Were you contacted regarding a homicide that day?
Zachary Farkus (3:03)
Yes, I was.
SPEAKER_4 (3:04)
Who contacted you?
Zachary Farkus (3:05)
So I was contacted by Detective Sarah Deamron from the FBI. She requested that I respond to 932 Cunningham Court to assist in an ongoing investigation.
SPEAKER_4 (3:15)
And what police department were you to assist?
Zachary Farkus (3:17)
The Tip City Police Department in Miami County on.
SPEAKER_4 (3:22)
What did you observe when you arrived at 932 Cunningham Court?
Zachary Farkus (3:25)
So when I arrived on scene, I observed crime scene tape wrapped around the perimeter of 932 Cunningham Court. There was a marked Tip City Police cruiser outside the front of that location.
And there were, I believe, anywhere from 10 to 15 individuals about front waiting to conduct a search inside the residence.
SPEAKER_4 (3:48)
Who did you contact when you arrived on scene?
Zachary Farkus (3:51)
I made contact with Agent Deamron about the kitchen.
SPEAKER_4 (3:54)
And what did you learn about how entry was allegedly made into the residence?
Zachary Farkus (3:57)
So what I was told was that entry had been made through the main door in the garage, which is on the north side of the residence.
SPEAKER_4 (4:07)
So who had already processed the scene?
Zachary Farkus (4:10)
Say that again.
SPEAKER_4 (4:10)
Who had already processed the scene?
Zachary Farkus (4:12)
So at that point I was told that Ohio's year of criminal investigation had been out of the scene on February 16th, so that fire had processed that location and collected evidence.
SPEAKER_4 (4:23)
Did you examine that side of the garage door on the north side of the home you just mentioned?
Zachary Farkus (4:27)
Yeah. So once I made entry into the residence, I was told that the path that the individual had taken upon making an entry again was through that man door, through the garage and then into the residence itself.
So I walked through the residence and into the garage and looked at the door itself at that point. That was in the garage.
