This is Hidden Killers Live with Tony Brueski and Robyn Drake.

Caleb Flynn finally turned to Ashley's family midway through this. He had the gall to do that. And for the first time, he acknowledges harm partially. He apologizes for what he said about Ashley in those messages. You know, douche, spawn of Satan, things like that. He apologizes for breaking his vows. Like, it's, I just broke my vows. You know, two bullets in the head broke the vows.

He hands the girls to Ashley's brother and sister-in-law and asks them to love his daughters. And then he stands in front of the judge, in front of his family, that buried their daughter and says out loud that he did not do this.

Caleb Flynn (0:50)

To Todd and Jill, Matt and Caleb, and our extended family.

I made vows to Ashley on our wedding day. I failed those vows.

And through my decisions, I have caused you guys an incredible amount of pain. Through those decisions, I'm sure you have felt betrayal, confusion, anger, and so much more. In all the words, don't come close. I cannot apologize enough. You heard awful and hurtful things that I've said. I'm so incredibly sorry. As horrible as those things were, I want you to know whether you believe it or not. I did not or do not mean them. I do not hate you. I love you all.

I take complete accountability and responsibility for my words and my decisions. And again, I'm so sorry. I am so sorry. And pray you can one day forgive me.

Tony Brueski (2:37)

For the man who has a master class, is this a master class in gaslighting?

Robyn Drake (2:44)

Well, since my class is about become the person everyone can trust, don't do this.

Tony Brueski (2:52)

Shavaun, your thoughts?

Shavaun Scott (2:54)

It's manipulative again. He can't weasel out of the text. And if he could weasel out of that, he'd definitely weasel out of it. But there is, it's black and white. It's in writing.

He is taking partial accountability, but not accountability for the big thing.

Robyn Drake (3:12)

The actions, no actions.

Shavaun Scott (3:14)

Yeah, yeah. And that's, I think, what matters. It's not this other stuff. It's not the text. It's the fact that he killed her.

Tony Brueski (3:23)

Here he is talking to the brother-in-law and his sister-in-law who are now raising his children as their own.

Caleb Flynn (3:32)

He's talking to Matt and Caleb specifically. They're unwillingly stepping in to know Ashley and I's greatest desire, which is taking care of the girls if some of you were to have it. Matt.

Matt, I know you will, but please love my girls as hard as you know how. Protect them at all costs. Care for their beautiful hearts. Give me everything they need you to be.

What I am most ashamed of and I regret most of all is the awful things I said about Ashley. I loved her and loved her. She is, she was my wife. She was beautiful and amazing in countless ways.

Tony Brueski (4:45)

I just happened to call her Douche Spawn of Satan and all that other. It was all just, it was just, you know, 107,000 text messages.

Read the room, dude. How, why, I don't know. Do you think there was any involvement with the attorneys here ahead of time going, I know you're going to try and appeal this. Maybe completely denying everything and literally trying to gaslight the whole courtroom might not work in your favor. I don't know the answer to that. What did you, what did we see there, Shavaun?

Shavaun Scott (5:20)

Well, it's, it goes back to that preferred narrative of what a wonderful guy he is.

Tony Brueski (5:25)

Yeah.

Shavaun Scott (5:25)

And he's not letting go of that. And this aberration with the affair, well, that's an aberration. That's not who he really is. And I think that his parents certainly buy into that. But this is a story he's told, you know, is that if he does something bad, it really wasn't bad. It was just, you know, a little glitch. And this manipulation of everyone else, that's, yeah, gaslighting is the term for how much he loved her. It's just nonsense. It's not going to land. It's not going to work.

Robyn Drake (6:02)

Well, he's looking to hopefully write to probably Jim Bob and Duggars and the IVLP because, you know, the real path to righteousness is just forgiveness. You know, you can do anything you want as long as you beg forgiveness.

And I really, I'm sitting here listening to this. And again, I'm now thinking about the judge. I'm really wondering if the judge could have heard anything different from him to actually change her mind and how she's going to sentence him.
