We should all hunger for great leadership. Great leadership is identifiable by a very simple rubric. And that is, is there somebody that gives you a positive vision of what the country can be that is grounded in reality. So nothing is ever going to be as easy as we want it to be. So there are going to be hard and difficult choices that we're going to have to make, hard and difficult things we're going to have to do. We are going to have to do things that make us all uncomfortable. And when we do it with bread and circus and we're executing people in front of us and we're braggadocio all the time and we're fucking crashing into countries willy-nilly just because we effectively can't be stopped, like that's not the kind of leadership that inspires people to follow you.

Is the point of the stars like JFK did and say that we're not going to do this because it's easy. We're doing it because it's difficult. We're doing things because they matter. We have a sense of who we are. That is critically important. I think one of the biggest things that we're suffering from right now in the West writ large is because we don't have a positive vision of who we are. We don't understand our past in a way that's intelligent and unifying. We don't understand our future in a way that's clear and meaningful and unifying. And because of that, there's all these battles back and forth between us.

We need leadership that tells us a story about who we are. And we are meaning making machines. There is a reason that humans need stories. And you need leadership that understands the power of a well-crafted, true narrative. It is a narrative. It's a choosing of what emphasis to put on things. It's a choosing of what interpretation to put on things. I get that.

But somebody that understands the power of doing that well, of doing it honestly, but in a way that is positive and optimistic and gives us something to aim at that brings everybody together. And when I saw this speech and I was so glad to see that it was going viral, when I saw this, I was like, holy cow.

This is Rubio at his finest. He obviously had a trip to Greece and at some point, he had the brilliant idea of basically just giving a pro-America through the lens of a pro-Greek speech, pro-Antiquity speech, a reinterpretation of that period that looks at the best things that it gave us instead of just harping on all the things that humanity has ever done wrong, of cutting through all that bullshit and getting to the foundations of Western intellectual tradition and things that gave birth to all the things that have generated so much prosperity and then shows us how this becomes the beacon that we all move to moving forward. This is absolutely brilliant. I'm going to be light touch in my commentary. I will break in a little bit as we go, but I really want you guys to listen to this speech.
