Good Monday morning and welcome into BMTV. I'm Grace Remington with Sean Hagan. We are covering just about everything on today's show from the yields and oil to AI and even art. And we've got some fantastic guests coming up for you. Hunter Biden, the son of former president Joe Biden, AJ Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of Solari Capital, and André Dragosch, European head of research at Bitwise. We're gonna get to covered and ready for the week ahead, Sean, aren't we?
Sean Hagan (0:33)
What a way to start the week. It's gonna be a great show today and let's get on with it.
Grace Remington (0:38)
All right, well, let's start with the headlines. Global stocks fell Monday as oil prices jumped on a stalemate in US-Iran talks. Brent crude rose as much as 3% to $108 a barrel while bond yields also climbed as markets braced for a busy week of economic data. Goldman Sachs says AI stocks are keeping the S&P 500 relatively steady, even as market breath falls to its lowest level since the dot-com bubble. The median S&P 500 stock is now 16% below its 52-week high, highlighting how narrow the market strength has become. The 10-year treasury yield climbed to around 5.2% on Monday, its highest level since July 2007, as markets price in a greater chance of another Fed rate hike. Strong business spending and rising inflation expectations are adding to the pressure, with investors now watching this week's inflation and jobs data for the Fed's next move. President Donald Trump says the White House is very seriously considering a ban on diesel exports as fuel prices rise ahead of the midterm elections. He says the administration is weighing the move carefully, warning that limiting exports could also push prices higher. And Bloomberg reports that Saudi Arabia has restarted oil exports through its key east-west pipeline after repairs following drone strikes earlier this month. Saudi Aramco has been testing the pipeline and building pressure over the last week, with flows now resuming.
Strategy and Strive both announced notable Bitcoin purchases this morning. Strategy acquired 1,665 Bitcoin, bringing its total holdings to 847,666 Bitcoin, while Strive bought another 1,107 Bitcoin for $94.5 million, taking its holdings to 27,462 Bitcoin, increasing its Bitcoin holdings per share by almost 60% year-to-date.
And with that, let's check on the markets this morning. Bitcoin up 2.6% on the day, sitting at 83.478.
Gold down about $200 over the weekend, almost down 3% sitting at $4,147 per ounce. We'll go to the equities now. The SPY up 3 tenths of a percentage point at 771.35, and QQQ up 2 tenths, almost a quarter of a percentage point at 744.50. The yields, obviously those have been the talk of the town. The 10-year up 4 basis points at 5.21, and the 30-yield up 2 basis points at 5.52. Sean, what's standing out to you today?
Sean Hagan (3:15)
Well, all eyes are on the yields, but I'm looking at Bitcoin. This is our second week in a row that we closed successfully above the 50-week moving average, which has traditionally been that line in the sand between bull and bear markets. Also notably, this last close was just barely, but it was above our previous high in May. So it's good to see that bullish momentum building.
And I think that's something to keep our eyes on moving forward here. It seems that we have, in fact, entered a bull market.
Grace Remington (3:41)
Okay, love to see it. Well, let's go to someone making his own markets. AJ Scaramucci, the founder and managing partner at Solari Capital, has been quietly backing the future for the past decade. Solari Capital just came out of stealth with $350 million deployed across AI, biotech and Bitcoin. He's also the co-founder and president of SkyBridge Alternatives Conference. AJ, good morning and welcome in.
AJ Scaramucci (4:05)
Good morning. It's good to be with you.
Grace Remington (4:07)
Yeah, thanks for joining us. So let's talk about Solari. It's investing in four different verticals. Intelligence, biology, matter, and finance. And this, of course, all under your thesis of programmable reality. So for viewers hearing this for the first time, what is programmable reality?
AJ Scaramucci (4:24)
Sure.
Yeah, I would say that the universe over time has trended towards extreme entropy. And now in this technological paradigm that we live in, we're actually now moving towards extreme levels of order. And I think that technology is a scarcely liberator. And the core thesis of programmable reality is simply that computational power, as it continues to grow exponentially, vis-a-vis scaling laws, vis-a-vis Moore's Law, is now infecting all of these different industries. And places like biology used to be, there used to be a lot of unknowns. And now biology is looking a lot more like an information science and one to be programmed.
