The Nick, Luttsy & Susie O'Neill Podcast.

David Lutteral (0:05)

So yesterday was the Emblem launch.

Susie O'Neill (0:07)

Yes, the Olympics and Paralympics, 2032

David Lutteral (0:09)

Yes, yes, yes. I think the overall consensus is that it's excellent.

Nick (0:13)

I love the logo.

Susie O'Neill (0:14)

I really like it. So do I.

David Lutteral (0:16)

I love it. It's a cockatoo.

Nick (0:17)

Pink cockatoo.

David Lutteral (0:19)

Well, there's the Olympic and the Paralympic. One's the pink cockatoo and one's another cockatoo.

Nick (0:23)

Right.

David Lutteral (0:24)

I don't know, I don't know, in front of me. I was just going to call them cockatoo. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Sorry, sorry, that's on me.

Very similar.

Susie O'Neill (0:31)

I mean, very similar colors, but slightly different for the Olympics and the Paralympics.

David Lutteral (0:36)

Yeah, the Olympics is kind of a pinky, and I think the Paras, I would say, is a kind of goldy. Correct. And it's the the crescent, the hair of the cockatoo.

There's five of them. There's three sort of clumped together and then two. So that's the 32 It's in the shape of Queensland as well. And it also looks a little bit like a torch.

Susie O'Neill (0:54)

Yeah, it's got the real torch and flame, obviously, which is such an important part of the Olympics as well. That reminded me of how exciting that all is going to be as well, with the Olympic Torch Relay, which changed my life 25 years ago, being able to cover that. So that's exciting as well.

David Lutteral (1:08)

Yeah, yeah.

Susie O'Neill (1:09)

Anyway, yeah, so this is, it looks good. It looks great. And I think it's a really important, because there was sort of interviewing, I did a couple of interviews yesterday, as I'm sure you did Susie, around all the excitement of it. It's something tangible that people, the one problem that we've had so far is, there's nothing tangible that people have been able to go, oh, okay, this is why we can start getting excited about the Olympics. Not much has been built yet.

David Lutteral (1:35)

You know what I mean? Like there's been nothing.

Nick (1:36)

Nothing to attach to.

David Lutteral (1:37)

Yeah.

But even the Sydney Olympics, we had a bid emblem. So we kind of, before they announced the emblem, we had actually a bid emblem that we all looked at, which was like the Opera House thing.

Nick (1:48)

Now with this logo launch, because I was watching the social media, right? And they were doing like the bit of the cockatoo head. They were passing it. There was former athletes or current athletes. And they were sort of like, you know, getting ready. And I was waiting for your video, Susie. I fully expected, I didn't know anything, but I expected-

Susie O'Neill (2:01)

We knew that you were doing something.

David Lutteral (2:03)

Yeah. Mine got canned, my bit. Why did yours get cancelled? Well, because you know how it got leaked? This is what I'm talking about. It got leaked on the Friday. Mine was going to be on the Sunday morning. Also, I'd done a previous, I did a photo about a week before. I'd done a photo about a week before.

Of all the pieces of the emblem but in a different order. And it was like a guessing thing. And it was meant to go on the paper in a big spot on Sunday morning, saying guess what the emblem is going to be.

Susie O'Neill (2:30)

And the reveal was supposed to be yesterday, Monday, the big reveal.

David Lutteral (2:33)

Yeah, and it's kind of Sunday. So mine was cancelled. I was meant to be at Kangaroo Point Cliffs with Kurt Fernley, the famous Paralympian.

Susie O'Neill (2:39)

Yes.

David Lutteral (2:40)

And yeah, anyway.

Nick (2:41)

How did it get leaked?

David Lutteral (2:43)

Well, apparently they were setting up to put the YouTube, the Open32 organizing committee was setting up to put the YouTube to go out on the Monday.

And apparently when you're previewing it and setting it up, there's a default thing that makes it flash up on the screen. Apparently, I heard it was only up for 11 seconds. Wow. It was up for 11 seconds.

Susie O'Neill (3:04)

Someone saw it and screen shot it and went, look up in the top right corner, there's your logo.

David Lutteral (3:09)

And it spread around fast, didn't it?

Susie O'Neill (3:12)

You know what, I almost went like, I caught a bit of BS yesterday. I thought it actually got more press because of the leak.

David Lutteral (3:18)

You know what I mean?
