Brian welcomes actor and comedian Jeremy Crittenden to the podcast as this week’s guest co-host. Jeremy talks about his acceptance of his Daddyness, and his appreciation for conversations with Daddies since nobody prepares us for the changes that happen later in life.

The mighty dollar. Once upon a time, it had a home menu named after it. Now, no more.

But one dollar a day lets you add Progressive Renters Insurance to your auto insurance. Definitely something your younger self would roll their eyes at, but your current adulting self appreciates. Observe. The North American Dad. 50s. Great polo collection. He enters his vehicle information on Carvana. An offer appears in minutes. Remarkable. He squints, reads it again, smiles and says, Dang, that's a good offer. The highest form of approval. No haggling, no hassle. No one called him boss.

He's still on the couch. Astonishing. Sell your car today on carvana.com. Pickup fees may apply.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (1:42)

Hi, friends. Welcome to Dads And Daddies, a podcast about the lives and times of adult gay men in the here and now. I'm Brian Rubin-Sowers, the dad, and our visiting daddy today is Jeremy Crittenden.

Jeremy Crittenden (1:54)

Hi.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (1:55)

Hi, Jeremy. Hello.

Jeremy Crittenden (1:56)

Thanks for having me.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (1:57)

Thank you so much for being here.

Jeremy Crittenden (1:59)

I'm really excited about this.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (2:00)

So I typically wouldn't call someone a daddy without their green light, but I do see online that you do identify as daddy.

Jeremy Crittenden (2:07)

Oh my gosh, absolutely. Yes. 100 percent. I was identified by people as a daddy, which is how your daddy trajectory begins.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (2:16)

Most often, yes.

Jeremy Crittenden (2:17)

The first time you hear that, it is very abrasive. It is a very upsetting moment in your life. Then I have what I call the daddy hatch, which is the moment that someone calls you a daddy, and it no longer hurts your feelings. All of a sudden, it goes from being a crazy, unexpected, awful thing to a surge of evil, evil powers that courses through every vein in your body. It happens just like that, and that is the daddy hatch. You go from twink death to daddy hatch. Space in between is purgatory.

That is the life of a daddy thus far.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (2:56)

Now, of course, here at Dads And Daddies, we see daddy power as a very benevolent power, and all the good that you can do with it.

Jeremy Crittenden (3:03)

Sure.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (3:04)

Yeah.

So, I want to give our listeners some context.

So, as our regular listeners know, Judson, my ride or die co-host, is taking a step back from the podcast for a spell to take care of himself. As you all heard, about a month ago, he's getting treatment for bipolar depression. In the meantime, I am either bringing on guest co-hosts, or I am just bringing on guests and speaking with them on my own. So, the first couple of weeks, I brought on past guests, that was what I thought would be the MO. For sure. And then, a couple of weeks, the last couple of weeks have just been me and a guest. And this is an experiment, because Jeremy and I met for the first time about 30 seconds ago.

Jeremy Crittenden (3:58)

About 30 seconds ago, yeah.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (4:01)

But you've been in my algorithm for quite a while.

Jeremy Crittenden (4:04)

Okay.

Brian Rubin-Sowers (4:04)

And you make me laugh. And while approaching the gay world, I think from a very different place than Judson, there's also a lot, I think, that you definitely bring to the Dads And Daddies table. So I'm very happy for you to be here.

Jeremy Crittenden (4:21)

Me too. I'm really excited to be here. It's nice. It's nice I'm having moments with daddies. You know what I mean?

Because I do believe there's an interesting thing that happens as we start to get older and we move into like new sort of eras of our lives. That when we're young, right? Where we're prepared for that. You know, like when we're kids, they teach us about puberty and what it's gonna be like when we go get into that. But like as you change again physically and also socioeconomically again later on, like there's nobody really telling you what to expect and what is different and what is changing. So I'm really curious about that part of people's lives right now.
