BREAKING: YOUR BITCOIN WALLET COULD BE COMPROMISED! (MOVE YOUR BITCOIN NOW) | EP 1560

One of the most trusted and popular Bitcoin wallets has been compromised. We've been in Bitcoin for close to a decade, and today is one of the saddest days we've ever lived through. This might be one of the biggest security issues we have seen. So today, we're gonna tell you who's at risk, how to protect yourself, and whether this hurts the fundamental thesis for Bitcoin and Bitcoin self-custody.
Honestly, huge, huge show.
We've all, I think all of us Bitcoiners have had a stressful night. And if this is your first time kind of hearing about this, you're not on Twitter, like this is a very, very critical show to watch. And of course, share to your friends. This is a big story. Think of anyone that you helped on board. I do have Kent here. I do have Nico with me. We have the packed house, guys. So let me get straight into it. So for you guys here that are completely unaware of what happened, there is a cold card security risk and immediate action is required. Now, when I say immediate action, I don't mean to make you panic right now. It's not the time to panic, but you do have to move your funds right now if you are using a cold card. And so just to kind of give you the breakdown, and then I'll kind of explain what happened and as much as we know currently. And then of course, we will give you like what we think is the best thing to do if you have the equipment. And of course, if you don't. So important, a major security vulnerability was discovered in cold card hardware while it's yesterday. For your own safety, of course, make sure you know what's going on, take the necessary actions immediately, all right? So the short of it, the TODR, the basic breakdown of who is affected, and maybe you are is cold card, MK2s, MK3s, MK4s, MK5s, and Qs are being driven.
Now, there is a bit of a caveat here from what we've seen. It's been UTXOs from 0.15 to 0.25. So if you haven't checked your cold storage right now, and you are using a cold card from the MK2, or even all the way up to the queue, you should definitely go check out your cold storage.

We're not clickbaiting or hyperbolic. We're not being hyperbolic. We're not trying to get your attention. Literally, this is an emergency. This is code red. If you own a cold card, transfer the funds from that cold card to an exchange or to another... Just anywhere.

Immediately, right now, this is developing as things go by. We wanted to get the most important message to you guys right off the rip of the show. We didn't want to save it towards the later of the show. We wanted to tell you guys the most important part. If you own a cold card right now, transfer your funds to another hardware wallet manufacturer where you have a cold storage solution or transfer to an exchange. Do not wait. Time is not your friend in this particular situation. This is what, as Opti said, in the long time that Opti and I have been in Bitcoin, this has been one of the biggest events that we have lived through. Cold card was the flagship cold storage device for most Bitcoiners. So I can't overstate how big of a deal this is.
This is a huge shock to the self-custody movement as a whole. It's going to come out stronger, and I'll explain to you a little bit later as to why.
But again, it's a break in trust, right? A lot of people who had their life savings with cold card, whose own marketing is, you know, sleep soundly at night technology, that trust was broken.
And it's extremely unfortunate. So if you own a cold card right now, before we go into a deeper analysis throughout the show, transfer your funds immediately, whether that's to an exchange you trust, or whether that's to another custody setup that is associated with another manufacturer. There's a lot of news that's coming out right now. But personally, I could tell you what, you know, I just would not trust my Bitcoin in self-custody with a cold card device at the moment as the news is developing. Opti.

And, you know, we always talk about eating on on cooking here. This is what we all did last night. I'm sure most Bitcoiners, once they heard this, did the same thing. Again, see people in the chat. Maybe it's delayed. What wallet? If you are using cold card right now, you should get your funds off cold card. Don't put it into another cold card yet. I will update what CoinKite has done in response to this. But again, the short of it, there was a vulnerability found in the MK2, MK3, MK4, MK5 and the queue where a bug lets attackers find your seed phrase without any action on your part. Only wallets generated using the dice roll method are presumably safe, but again, take it off cold card right now, assuming you rolled at least 50 dice. If you don't know or don't remember, again, move your funds right now. I will break down for people what at least the initial thinking was on this.
